China is a big energy country with a wide variety of energy sources and abundant reserves.Energy is the material basis for the survival and development of human society and the driving force behind economic development.Since the reform and opening up,China’s economy has developed rapidly, industrialization and urbanization have been rapidly advanced, and the need of energy has been greatly improved.China’s total energy consumption has been among the highest in the world for many years. However, the proportion of new energy use in China is not high, and energy waste is serious. There is still a big gap in energy efficiency compared with the developed countries in the world, which are not conducive to the high-quality development of China’s economy. As an important region of China’s economic development, the Yangtze River Economic Belt has important strategic significance. However, its development relies to a large extent on non-clean energy such as coal, which has caused serious pollution to most cities in the Yangtze River basin, resulting in low energy efficiency in cities. These have hindered the future sustainable development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. This paper builds an energy efficiency evaluation index system from three aspects of input, expected output and undesired output by clarifying the connotation of energy efficiency and combing the research progress of energy efficiency, and using the SBM model with undesired output(with the traditional DEA-CCR).Model comparison),comprehensively calculate the energy efficiency of 108 prefecture-level cities in the 2007-2016 Yangtze River Economic Belt. Then it analyzes the characteristics and regional differences of energy efficiency in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from both time and space, and uses the Malmquist index to analyze the dynamic changes of energy efficiency. Finally, the Tobit model is used to analyze the impact of various related factors on the energy efficiency of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. And the role,in order to provide suggestions for the improvement of the energy efficiency level of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the reduction of the overall energy efficiency of the Yangtze River Economic Belt. After empirical analysis of the spatial and temporal variation characteristics and influencing factors of urban energy efficiency in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, this paper draws the following conclusions:(1)From the perspective of time change, the overall urban energy efficiency of the Yangtze River Economic Belt is the first in 2007-1016.The “N”-type change trend of rising and then rising, and in recent years, the energy efficiency difference between cities has gradually narrowed down;(2)In the spatial distribution of energy efficiency,low-efficiency and medium-efficiency cities dominate The status, medium and high efficiency and high efficiency cities are less;most of the cities in the energy efficiency zone are located in the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and are distributed in blocks, showing strong spatial agglomeration;the energy efficient areas are mainly distributed in the Yangtze River Delta. The region and the western part of Yunnan are geographically at the end of the economic belt.(3)In 2007-2016,the total energy factor productivity of the Yangtze River Economic Belt increased by 6.2% annually. The increase of energy total factor productivity in the downstream areas mainly relied on technological progress, while the increase of energy total factor productivity in the upstream and middle reaches was technology. The result of a synergy between progress and technical efficiency.(4)In terms of the factors affecting the energy efficiency of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the level of economic development has a significant role in promoting energy efficiency. The industrial structure is positively correlated with energy efficiency but not significant;the increase in foreign participation and resource endowment is not conducive to the Yangtze River. The economy has improved energy efficiency.Based on the above research results, this paper believes that we should actively promote urban economic development, continue to optimize the industrial structure, and increase the proportion of high value-added industries in the tertiary industry, which is fundamental to improving urban energy efficiency.
