EMI,a key component of the manufacturing industry, has increasingly appealed the interests of scholars, with the rapid development of Made in China 2025.The Belt and Road Initiative inherits and develops the ancient Silk Road, overcoming the traditional restrictions of geography and geopolitics,as well as combining China's development with world development, which contributes to the transformation of China's industrial structure and the recovery of the global economy. This paper aims at investigating the export layout of Chinese EMI's subdivision industry under the Belt and Road Initiative.Based on trade complementarity and location selection theories, this paper organically integrates theoretical research with quantitative analysis, constructing the two-dimensional matrix of trade complementarity-export potential between China and Belt & Road countries as the framework of the full paper.Firstly, this paper selects the import and export data of China's EMI subdivision from 2012 to 2017,making a complementary analysis on the export status between China and relevant countries based on comparative advantage index, comparative disadvantage index and trade complementarity index.Secondly, this paper selects the panel data of China's EMI exported to Belt & Road regions from 2008 to 2017,constructing the extended gravity model for subdivision industry in accordance with EMI's own characteristics, and analyzing the main factors through the model regression results,to measure the export potential of the subdivision industry specifically. Finally, this paper uses two-dimensional matrix to combine trade complementarity index with export potential organically, analyzing and summarizing the final location selection scheme of subdivision industry from the point of both supply and demand,so as to provide reference for export location selection of China's EMI under B&R.The following conclusions can be drawn from the abovementioned research:(1)China and B&R regions have their own advantages in the trade of EMI subdivision(2)The trade complementarity of EMI between China and relevant regions varies from subdivision industry.(3)In the extended gravity model of each subdivision industry, the GDP of the import regions, the output value of EMI of export country, and the common boundary and the preferential trade system all have positive effects on the export of the specific industry, while the geographical distance plays a negative role. Each region shows different export potential in subdivision industry.(4)Different regions should consider different export priorities of subdivision industry with the aid of two-dimensional matrix. The main contribution of this paper is dividing EMI into subdivision industry in order to study the export layout, taking into account the regional differences of different subdivision industries, which is more researchable and meticulous than using the industry category.Additionally, the combination of EMI exports and the current hot spot B&R has enriched the research in related fields and provided reference for the development of regional trade.
