At the beginning of the 21 st century,China ’s population aged 60 years and over accounted for 10% of the total population, marking China ’s entry into an aging society. At present,China has about 250 million elderly people aged 60 and above, accounting for 17.9% of the total population. The size and growth rate of the elderly population have greatly exceeded the world average.Along with the rapid development of China’s population aging,it is also accompanied by the trend of population aging. The problem of long-term care for elderly disabled,semi-disabled and demented elderly is becoming more and more serious, which has become a key problem restricting the development of China’s elderly cause. At present, although China is in a period of rapid development and concentrated construction of care facilities for the aged, there is a serious disconnect between supply and demand in the long-term care of elderly people with disability and dementia.Research and facilities in related fields are also at the initial stage. There is still a huge gap between the types of elderly care facilities and advanced countries in terms of number and services. Therefore, the thesis focuses on the long-term care of elderly people with dementia, that is,elderly people with different degrees of cognitive disorders, and proposes to build special dementia care facilities for the aged to effectively meet the needs of this special group of elderly people.Long-term care needs to fill the gaps in the type system of care Facilities for the Aged in China;and further analyze the construction strategy of this type of care facilities in China’s urban areas;and its key points in architectural design.First, the thesis starts from the long-term care work of the elderly with cognitive disorders and combines the relevant information in the field of nursing to summarize the characteristics of the elderly people with cognitive disorders;Demands, goals and principles;on this basis, specifically analyze the development of the long-term care system for the elderly in Japan and Taiwan in China and dementia care cacilities for the aged, from the three dimensions of long-term care policies, systems and facilities to compare the development status of mainland China and systematically analyze the longterm care of the elderly with cognitive disorders.Secondly, the paper summarizes the problems existing in the existing care facilities for the aged in Beijing in accommodating elderly people with cognitive disorders;combined with the previous analysis, the five dimensions of facility construction, facility design, facility scale, care form and space environment Specific strategies for the construction of dementia care facilities for the aged are proposed;and further specific design points are proposed for the specific facility architectural design. Finally, through the design practice of Tianheng Group’s Tiantao cognitive syndrome type elderly care facility, the thesis concretizes the proposed facility construction strategy and specific architectural design points, and proposes a practical construction plan.It can provide a reference for China’s future development and construction of Dementia Care facilities for the Aged in urban areas.
