Energy is an important basis for the development and progress of human society, and energy consumption is an important symbol of a country's economic development and people's living standard. For China, sustained rapid economic growth, rapid industrialization and urbanization continue to boost China's total energy consumption.China accounted for 23.2 percent of global energy consumption in 2017.At the same time,China's "energy production and consumption revolution strategy(2016-2030)" clearly points out that controlling for the total energy consumption and energy intensity, fundamentally reverse the extensive growth mode energy consumption. Therefore,to promote energy revolution, advocating sustainable energy consumption is not only China's active response to climate change, the inevitable choice of improving the quality of economic development, and also make more energy development achievements benefit all the people, meet people's increasing need of a better life,to ensure the sustainable economic and social development of China in the future. In China's energy consumption composition, household energy consumption has become the second largest energy consumption. The situation and changing trend of household energy consumption directly affect the trend of China's energy consumption. However, the research on the impact of household indirect energy consumption is still in its infancy. Most of the existing studies start from the macro perspective and ignore the important impact of population characteristics on household indirect energy consumption from the micro perspective. Therefore, the study on the impact of population age structure on the indirect energy consumption of urban households in China can help solve the serious problems in the current energy field in China, improve the energy efficiency in China, and provide some references for China's energy reform and environmental governance policies. This article takes the age structure as a key independent variable, using the data of Chinese Family Panel Studies(CFPS),empirically analyzes the impact of the age structure of the population on the indirect energy consumption of urban households in China, and puts forward relevant Suggestions on this basis. This thesis consists of six parts: the chapter 1 is the introduction, which mainly includes the background, significance, research ideas, methods, definition of relevant concepts, innovation points of the topic and the shortcomings of this research.;The chapter 2 combing and reviewing the literature review at home and abroad; The chapter 3 analyzes the current situation of Chinese population age structure and urban households indirect energy consumption; The chapter 4 is the influence mechanism analysis, mainly analyzes the population age structure to Chinese urban households indirect energy consumption direct and indirect action mechanism; The chapter 5 is the influence effect analysis, which mainly analyzes the effect of the population age structure on Chinese urban households indirect energy consumption on the basis of the fourth chapter; The chapter 6 is the conclusion and suggestion, which summarizes the theoretical and empirical conclusions, and puts forward relevant policy suggestions and the shortcomings of this research and the future research direction.Through analysis, the following main conclusions can be obtained:First, the indirect energy consumption of urban households in different age groups has significant differences, and the indirect energy consumption tends to decrease with the increase of age in China. The households in the 18-29 age group consumed the most indirect energy,20.4% more than those in the 30-39 age group, and the households over 65 years old consumed the least indirect energy,10.8% less than those in the 30-39 age group.Second, the indirect energy consumption structure is different in different age groups. The indirect energy consumption of the elderly aged over 65 is significantly different from that of the family in the 30-39 age group in eight categories, among which the indirect energy consumption of clothing, residence, transportation, culture, education, entertainment and other goods and services is significantly lower than that of the 30-39 age group.Thirdly, the effects of income, family size and housing area on household indirect energy consumption are significantly different and positively correlated with age groups. When income increases, the total indirect energy consumption of 50-64 age group and above 65 age group decreases compared with that of 30-39 age group. The increase in household size increases the indirect energy consumption of 40 age group and over compared with households 30-39 age group. The increase of housing area leads to the increase of indirect energy consumption, but indirect energy consumption increased less in the 18-29 age group than in the 30-39 age group, and more in the over-65 age group..Fourth,different age structure characteristics in eastern, central and western regions have different impacts on household indirect energy consumption. The difference in household indirect energy consumption between the age groups of 18-29 and 30-39 in western is greater than that in eastern. In addition, the birth age of urban families in the western region is earlier than that in the eastern region. As a result, the difference in family size between the age groups of 30-39 years old and 18-29 years old in the western region is larger than that in the eastern region. Therefore, under the combined action of these factors, the difference of urban household indirect energy consumption among different age groups in the western region is greater than that in the eastern region. The possible innovation points of this article are mainly reflected in:First, from the perspective of research, the current research of indirect energy consumption mainly focused on the factors of economic growth, urbanization, and mostly from the macroscopic analysis, although it has from the microscopic analysis involves the demographic factors, but less to explore the influence of population age structure of indirect energy consumption. Therefore, the analysis of the age structure of population in this article can better understand the differences in consumption patterns of urban households in different age groups in indirect energy consumption,as well as the impact of demographic factors on household energy consumption.Second, from the perspective of research methods,in the existing studies on China's energy consumption, the research on indirect energy consumption is obviously less than that on direct energy, and there are still many aspects to be improved in the research methods of indirect energy. With economic growth, indirect energy is no less important than direct energy in national economic and social development. Therefore, this article uses the consumer lifestyle analysis method to calculate the indirect energy consumption of urban households from a micro perspective, which can provide some reference for the measurement method of energy consumption.
