Study On The Characteristics And Design Techniques Of Kazuyo Sejima's Architecture Works

The Japanese architect Kazuyo Sejima shows a distinctive architectural concept by breaking through the inherent architectural type,spatial organization,form and function of space.She pays attention to the behavior and experience of people in the architectural space and emphasizes the relationship between architecture and the environment,which provides new possibilities for architecture.She assimilates both Japanese tradition and modernism,complementing with her own thinking about the background of the present era.Between the traditional aesthetic taste of Japan and the material vocabulary of modern architecture,she has found a superb balance and combination skill,and eclectically created a personal architectural language.This paper takes the characteristics and design techniques of Kazuyo Sejima's architecture works as the main research content.It starts from the background of her architectural creation,and believes that the formation of her architecture was comprehensively influenced by the traditional and contemporary culture,social and times features and mentoring relationship.Then it analyzes Sejima's architecture to find out the correlation with Japanese traditional architecture and modernist architecture.By all of these,it tries to explore her thinking on the relationship between the traditional and modern aspects of architecture.Through a considerable number of case analysis,it summarizes Sejima works' characteristics as "blanking",homogenization and interest from the form,space and function.Besides,it studies the architectural design techniques of Sejima.Her works show the characteristics of "super flat" in the spatial organization and composition and "incorporeity" in material and structure.Ultimately,this paper discusses the influence and significance of the Kazuyo Sejima's works and thoughts,hoping to provide new ideas and useful enlightenment for contemporary architectural practice.
