The Evolution Of Kazuyo Sejima's Space Design Language

The study,the architectural language and architectural semiotics as the basic theory,using diagram analysis and eye movement experimental method as the research method,carded space design language evolution and trend of Kazuyo Sejima,and the reasons of the evolution.With the popularity of Japanese architects in recent years,Kazuyo Sejima as a Japanese architect who has won the Pulitzer prize,her space design style is unique and her design method is innovative,which is increasingly concerned by architectural circle.She always adhere to create a free activities of “Park ” public space the design ideal for different populations in the city,through some open space,permeability and diverse in simple shape building implementation.In different design works,Kazuyo Sejima gradually expresses its design ideal with its unique design language.This study is to analyze the evolution of the spatial design language in her works,and to analyze the influence factors by the method of diagram method and the method of mapping.According to Maurice theory of Language Semiotics,the study of Kazuyo Sejima's space design language is divided into three levels: syntactics,semantics and pragmatics.The realization degree of the design intention expressed though the space design language is verified by the semantic and pragmatic.According to the basic structure of linguistics,Kazuyo Sejima space design language structure is divided into plane morpheme,the plane combination and separate vocabulary and vertical combination syntactic,and analysis them layer by layer.According to Kazuyo Sejima style,selecting curve morpheme as plane morpheme,plan combination and separate vocabulary as plane vocabulary,spatial organization selected vertical combination syntactic,the evolution of the form,the combination and the application position is classified.Classified and diagram analysis the 71 space design works from 1987 to 2010 that Kazuyo Sejima participated in according to above three parts of the diagram analysis,and according to design year to play into the map,in order to analyze the law of evolution.Study concluded that the main evolution of Kazuyo Sejima space design language: plane morpheme grew from simple to complex;plane vocabulary grew from the whole to the group;vertical combination syntactic grew from the fragment to the whole.These trends are consistent with the evolution of Kazuyo Sejima's intention of space design: continuous,transparent,open and uniform etc..According to the principle of "mental rotation" in cognitive psychology,the evolution of Kazuyo Sejima's space design language can be reflected by the two eye movement experiments.And it can be cognized by the construction experiences.Through the diagram and mapping analysis of the evolution of Kazuyo Sejima's spatial design language in Japanese culture and real conditions.In order to achieve architecture design ideal of free activities in public places like “park” as goal,and to verify the results by eye movement experiments.Getting a conclusion that,in Japanese aesthetic environment,influenced by inherited lineages,despite the practical constraints,Kazuyo Sejima always uphold the own design idea,still evolving the unique space design language,and the style of space gradually be recognized by people.
