Architectural curtain wall is the building envelope or decorative structure,which is composed of supporting structure system and panel,and does not share the role of the main structure.Due to the late start of construction curtain wall,there are still many shortcomings in project management in the curtain wall project point of view.After initiation of a construction of curtain wall project,we always find that it is hard to prepare project planning because of the wide scope of construction curtain wall,plenty of processes and complex resource requirements,etc.As we know,inaccurate project planning will lead to frequent project changes with project moving forward,which increase difficulty of project management.Actually,construction progress management is the most important part at whole project life cycle in curtain wall,as well as the most valuable part to be controlled and improved.Project managers generally take high priority of progress management,and carry out a series of activities to avoid construction curtain wall schedule being delayed.However,the curtain wall schedule management still adopts the traditional Gantt chart technology or critical path method,which does not consider the impact of resource conflicts and uncertainties.Then,the progress,cost,scope and quality get bad affected because of inaccurate schedule planning as well as difficult execution with project moving forward.Therefore,it is very important to draw up a reasonable and implementable progress plan by combining various factors within project to ensure that the construction curtain wall schedule meets the needs of relevant parties.In this paper,the critical chain method is applied to construction curtain wall,the A curtain wall project of MT enterprise is selected as an example,in order to solve two major problems:one is the problem of resource conflict,the other is the problem of setting buffer zone under the influence of uncertainties.First,we have in-depth analysis and study of various problems which may affect the construction progress of A curtain wall project during project moving forward,and then analysis the causes of these problems,the key chain is identified through heuristic method.Then,the final reasonable and feasible project schedule plan comes out with considering the uncertainties in the construction process,re-estimating the duration of the procedure on the link,eliminating excessive or unnecessary safety time,and using root variance method to set up the project buffer and the import buffer separately.Finally,dynamic management is applied monitor buffer size in critical chain,which ultimately ensures the completion of new curtain wall project schedule.The results show that:firstly,through the identification of key chains,the source conflict of welding wages in project A construction is solved,the key processes on key links are better supervised and managed,the schedule control is more operable,to a certain extent,the project cost is saved;secondly,through the setting of buffer zone,the unnecessary safety time is eliminated,and the risks are strongly absorbed,it is convenient for project managers to monitor and manage,the initiative of project managers is mobilized,and ultimately shortened the total construction period of A project,which was awarded.Therefore,the critical chain method has practical reference value in the progress management optimization of curtain wall engineering.
