| With the improvement of people’s living standards and advances in medical technology,life expectancy has risen accordingly.Since the start of 21 st century,the Chinese society has been aging gradually.The Chinese government needs to meet the needs of the elderly group,conduct and continuously improve the old-age service system,and put forward new requirements for the design of the public space for the elderly in response to such new problems.As the space design of the past didn`t focus on the elderly age group and the average age of the population of China is rising,this paper takes the "adequately elderly-centered" concept as the starting point and reviews the principles of space design for elderly-centered communities in order to study and improve the activity space of the elderly people,while its another important goal is pointing out the primary ways of modifying living space in order to put them into practice.Starting from the research status both in China and abroad,this paper concentrates on the seriousness of China’s current aging problem and the necessity of establishing public service facilities for the elderly in China.This paper summarizes the main functional attributes of the elderly-centered community and proposes the principle of spatial design for such communities in terms of physiological characteristics,psychological characteristics and behavioral characteristics of the elderly,concluding the theoretical basis.Finally,through the design case of the Zibo Community,this paper summarizes the proper principles for space design of elderly-centered communities in China,and explores the corresponding implementation techniques that would help the Chinese society to develop the services available to elderly people. |
