The Research On The Style And Ornament Of Balustrades In Liao,Song,Jin,Yuan Dynasty

Balustrades have functions such as protection,enclosing and dividing,which are are important components of Chinese ancient architecture with practical function,technology value,aesthetic meaning and cultural connotation.In the buildings of different periods,regions,types and class,there are various balustrades.Balustrades are also common elements in classical gardens.Although there are few remains,there are many indirect materials which reflect the appearance of balustrades,such as models and images,including murals,paintings and brick carvings.Based on the abroad collection and classifications of these materials,the style and ornament of the balustrade are analyzed,and the evolution of balustrades during the past dynasties before the Liao and Song Dynasties are teased out.On the basis of the summary of the balustrades in the past dynasties,the research focuses on the balustrades of Liao,Song,Jin and Yuan periods:analyzes characteristics of shape and ornament in each period and their mutual relations.According to the comparison of balustrades during previous generations,combined with the records of the "Yingzao Fashi",discusses the significance of this period in the history of balustrades development and the relationship between the balustrades and the architecture.
