As the rapid growth in Chinese national economy has attracted wide-range attention to corporate social responsibility(CSR),awareness of the importance of social responsibility for corporate,environmental,social harmonious development has gradually taken root in Chinese enterprises.In light of that,it has become increasingly imperative to conduct the theoretical and practical studies on social responsibility that suit the current status of Chinese enterprises.Chinese companies lack of a complete and deep understanding of social responsibility,and particularly in exercising their concrete social responsibilities,they are incompetent in performing such social responsibility persistently and professionally.The socialist market economic system is adopted in China,and the state-owned economy has occupied dominant position in its national economy.The uniqueness of state-owned enterprises gives rise to the fact that state-owned enterprises play a special role in assuming social responsibility.The state-owned enterprises assuming their social responsibilities proactively can produce a good leading,motivational and model effect upon enterprises of other economic nature,which will consequently promote and enhance the awareness and level of Chinese enterprise to conduct social responsibility.Poverty elimination is an important social issue that the Chinese government is committed to address.The Social Responsibility Pyramid Model put forward by Carol indicates that corporate charity responsibility is the upmost level of social responsibility.In performing social responsibility in way of charity,assistance and relief being offered to those poverty-stricken regions and population is the major means for the enterprise to realize their social responsibility.The enterprise,through its social responsibility campaign of helping the poor,can set up an effective mechanism that can produce good effect up poverty-reduction effort,enhance its reputation and core competency.Strengthening the ability of sustainable development becomes an important topic in the study of corporate social responsibility.In the present paper,the targeted measure adopted by Guangzhou Automobile Group Component Co.,Ltd.(GACC)to alleviate poverty is adopted as the case to be studied.GACC,as a state-owned enterprise,has treated the poverty alleviation as a social responsibility that involves sustaining effort since its establishment.Significant results have been achieved in all its poverty-alleviation campaigns by cultivating correct corporate social responsibility awareness,incorporating the poverty-alleviation effort into its corporate development strategy and setting up a full-fledged poverty-alleviation responsibility management system.The stakeholder theory and Carol social-responsibility pyramid model is employed in the present paper to analyze the theoretical rationale of the targeted measures adopted by GACC for its poverty-alleviation campaign,and in-depth analysis and evaluation is done on the such responsibility from the perspective of its course of history,management system,ways and features of poverty-relief activities.Meanwhile,problems and defects of other enterprises in carrying out poverty-relief activities will be pointed out.In order to help enterprises better fulfil their poverty-alleviation obligation,suggestions are put forward on how to develop correct poverty-alleviation philosophy,establish and improve poverty-alleviation responsibility management system,and ideas are given as well on the role of the government in guiding and supporting enterprises’ endeavor of poverty-alleviation.
