During the designing and constructing process of the Lotus Teahouse in Yixing,it is an important problem to find a proper way to translate traditional architectural space.The presentation of traditional culture in architectural design has been attracted more and more attention.However,a lot of problems in the traditional inheritance and translation have arisen.On one hand,rational approach is needed to guide design practice,so that it is expected to explore the regulation of traditional architectural space and method to express traditional spirit in the contemporary architectural design practice.On the other hand,the generative design can efficiently obtain the results which inherit and develop the given regulation through the deduction of algorithms and rules.This study attempts to apply the method of generative design to the the contemporary architectural design practice which translates traditional architectural space.First of all,graphic analysis system is built up through the organization system between buildings and courtyard,as well as buildings and the main landscape.The system covers two aspects including: traditional space sequence and space composition.Then the system is predigested into a highly abstract space prototype.The space prototype includes architectural elements and the organization way of architectural elements.It illustrates both plane characteristics and interface characteristics.Afterwards,design task of Lotus Teahouse is taken as an example to carry out an architectural layout generation experiment.The generation experiment is based on multi-agent system,using JAVA language programming to transform space prototype into computational model.Rules and parameters are adjusted considering the influence of function relations,architectural form and environmental factors.Finally,a three – dimensional concept model which inherits the space prototype is obtained.The result indicates a probable rational translation method of traditional architectural space in contemporary architectural design. |
