The Quantitative Research Of The Cognitive Scale Between Building Facade And External Space

In the external space of a building,people's cognition of the building is the cognition of the building facade.The cognitive process of architecture is from the outside to the inside,so the building facade first forms the first impression of the building.Therefore,what relationship between the cognitive scale of the building facade and the external space has become a problem for the architectural scholars to study.They published a variety of external space cognitive theory,such as the ancient Chinese Feng Shui theory,the western Camilo and Ashihara Yoshinobu's D/H theory,etc.these theories have contributed to the development of the cognitive scale of the external space of architecture.However,with the explosive growth of urban construction activities in modern city,the existing external space cognitive scale theory has been unable to adapt to the increasingly diverse urban space environment needs,so this requires a new external space cognitive scale calculation method.Nowadays,interdisciplinary methods are more and more popular among scholars.Starting from the research of ophthalmology,anatomy and other related subjects,this paper makes a quantitative study on the relationship between the building facade and the external space cognitive scale,and publishes a new calculation method.In this paper,the concepts of contour cognitive scale and detail cognitive scale are proposed,and their calculation formulas are obtained respectively,quantitative analysis of the cognitive scale of architectural exterial space by using computer software.Taking Cologne Cathedral as an example,the relationship between the scale of the building facade and the cognitive scale of the external space is analyzed,and an intuitive quantitative diagram is obtained.Finally,three typical cases are calculated and evaluated through the calculation method in this study,which shows the feasibility and applicability of the calculation method proposed in this paper.The quantitative study of the cognitive scale between the building facade and the external space points out the visual continuity of the building and provides strong data support for the evaluation of the external space of the building.Not only for external space design,but also for the design and analysis of building facade provides a new verification and reference,but also for the future of external space cognitive scale research put forward new directions.
