The Study On The Influential Factors Ofconstruction Mode Selection By EPC Contractors From Design Companies

Engineering Procurement Construction(EPC)mode are becoming an important mode with a certain and stable increasing proportion in Chinese construction field in recent years.With the slowdown investment in construction field,and shrinking of engineering design market,more and more tradition engineering Design Company are trying to transform from a design contractor to an EPC contractor.However,the first obstacle is lack of experience and ability for construction management.For Design Company fulfilling EPC contractor task,especially for building engineering,there are two popular construction modes to make choice usually.The first mode is to entrust an outsourcing Construction Company to undertake all the construction works,we call this as “Construction Outsourcing”;the other mode is to deal with the construction works by Design Company itself,we call this as “Construction by Self”.These two practice modes have their own advantages and disadvantages.Based on those special characters of Design Company,scientifically identifying those influential factors for the mode choice is not only the basis of keeping proper project profit and smoothly project risk controlling,but also the emphasis that a number of design institutes in EPC focused on in the work.On the condition of Design Company acted as EPC contractor,this paper managed to identify those influential factors for constructing mode choice,then to elaborate those key factors,and finally to verify these key factors through case analysis.This paper identified the influential factors of selecting the construction mode of EPC project that will be helpful to the decision-making of the project management team.The results of this study can promote the improvement of design Institute EPC core competitiveness,can help enterprises judging the efficiency of management and accelerating the process of internationalization.All of these efforts can improve the ability of domestic enterprises adapting to the international market and the large-scale construction needs.
