Study Research On Visitor Center Design Of Xinchang Shanghai Based On Vernacular Theory

Following the rapid construction of cities,a series of problems has also emerged,including cultural loss,the tendency of assimilation among modern cities,and lack of uniqueness of regional culture.At the same time,vernacular landscapes are fading away from cities,with a growing amount of people becoming increasingly unfamiliar to vernacular landscapes,which is also an issue that requires immediate solutions.Studies based on the landscape design practices of visitor centers,design principles and strategies with vernacular concept are put forward herein,while applying this theoretical knowledge into modern landscape design to make up for the cultural loss of modern landscapes is where the significance of this project lies.Firstly,through data organization and analysis,the vernacular concept is reinterpreted into five aspects including ecology,culture,form,vitality,and mentality.Taking this as the theoretical basis for the vernacular concept,the elements,characteristics,and formation of vernacular landscapes are analyzed to guide modern design,moreover,the feasibilities for the five aspects of the vernacular concept are discussed based on the landscape design of visitor center of Xinchang Ancient Town.Secondly,principles and strategies,based on the vernacular concept,for modern landscape design are put forward.Through an in-depth analysis of five aspects of the vernacular concept,five design principles are brought up including the principle of ecological diversity and balance,the principle of cultural inheritance and promotion,the principle of formal unification and alignment,the principle of vitality diversity and stopover,and the principle of mental caring and pleasure.Under these principles,five strategies are proposed including ecological reference and protection,cultural reproduction and utilization,formal reference and extraction,establishment and region of vitality,and mental creation and ultimate concern for mentality.Principles and strategies put forward herein provide references for landscape design,and combine vernacular concept with modern times to satisfy the requirements of times.Lastly,the landscape design for the visitor center of Xinchang Ancient Town is finished according to the content studied.The final result of the landscape design for the visitor center of Xinchang Ancient Town is based on five aspects of the vernacular concept,and applies the design principles and strategies five aspects.Considering five aspects including ecology,culture,form,vitality and mentality,the landscape design for the visitor center generates a plane layout of “six gardens” and “eight yards” while meeting the functional demands as the visitor center,thus provides a new “venue” for the Xinchang Ancient Town.The feasibility of the “five aspects” theory of vernacular concept is discussed herein with practical cases.
