Study Of The Pingtang Industrial Heritage Landscape Renewal Design In Changsha Based On The Vernacular Landscape Concept

Human industrial activity is the product of the industrial revolution.Industrial activities are necessary throughout the urban developing process,leaving inevitable issues with global environmental pollution,resource depletion and unbalanced eco-environment.Industrial sites that took up too much land cannot be simply torn down and then rebuilt again.The unsolved issue with large quantity of industrial heritage is,in fact,finding the resolution of remaining resources and environmental restoration.Multiple adjustments and reformations have been made in the industrial mode and structure in Changsha,where traditional high-consumption and high-pollution enterprises are gradually replaced by high-efficiency,low-pollution and containable enterprises.During the process,some of the old industrial sites are abandoned and even removed with numbers of tradition-al industrial companies becoming obsolete.Tearing down old sites is widely applied to pursue high efficiency and profits,regardless of what might contain in those factories and buildings,like memories and moments from the city' s development as well as the historical and cultural values.The basic principle then becomes' Building new factories only'for most abandoned industrial sites.However,industrial viewing sites can be redesigned and reconstructed under the willingness of conducting eco-friendly construction and resource-conserving society.In this article,with new angles of rural landscape theories and natural historical status in Changsha considered,I have made analysis of the achievements of the reformed local industrial heritage regarding damages of eco-environmental elements,including water,earth and planting systems,and presenting skills and the achieved objectives of abandoned space within the targeted area.Meanwhile,this article has established the importance of proper reformation and industri-al heritage exploiting in restoring eco-environment and conti-nuation of city's memory.Specific discussions have been made based on the eco-environment recovery project in Pingtang,Changsha,in which environmental overviews of different bases within the area,designing approaches,reformation principles and rural landscape designing theories during the planning procedure of the project are studied from both two angles of industrial heritage reservation and transformation and eco-environmental restoration,presenting wide views from this example.At the end of the article,principles and policies of local industrial eco-environmental improvement,landscape restorat-ion resources exploiting and reformation and redesign of space are displayed targeting current issues of industrial heritage in Changsha with practical designing and renewed representati-on methodology experiences from the previous project.
