Abstract/Summary:
Yuhang Guishan Academy was set up by Master Yang Shi, a famous rationalistic Confucianist in Song Dynasty. It was an important place for Song Confucianism to be imparted in Yuhang, which Master Yang Shi’s ideologies and ideas permeated. The site selection, environmental management and the characteristics of shape and structure of the architecture in early construction of the Academy all showed the attributes and connotations of academies in Zhejiang.The design topic is the neo-vernacular architecture concept design of Yuhang Guishan Academy; the project comes from the Humanity and Social Science Youth Foundation of Ministry of Education of China. Under the background of promotion of the development of new urbanization and the "Build beautiful Zhejiang,create a better life" by Zhejiang Province, Chaoshan scenic bound has been planned and adjusted in Town and Regional Planning of Linping, which Guishan has been brought into, intending to lay out a New Guishan Academy to inherit and develop the vernacular cultural context of traditional academies and integrate cultural universality of Wuxi Guishan Academy in Jiangsu and Yuhang Guishan Academy to make it a whole academy cultural context from the south to the north.The theoretical research report shows that, Yuhang Guishan Academy architecture possesses the cultural and artistic values that official architecture and folk architecture cannot achieve, owning both the ritual culture of the official architecture and the characteristics of folk local culture, meanwhile incorporating the literati’ s taste and architectural thoughts. It is a branch of Zhejiang residential culture whether from the perspective of natural geography or human geography; it has typical traditional vernacular elements on the form of architecture, and integrates and links up with the local residential architecture technique. The design vertically compares the development Statuses of the Four Large Academies of Song Dynasty and the Academies of Jiangsu &Zhejiang Area in Song Dynasty; horizontally compares the similarities and differences of Guishan Academy architecture with Confucian academies architecture, residential architecture,temple architecture,etc. to infer and frame the construction shape and structure of Guishan Academy. Through the analysis and comparison of the vernacular architectural art and vernacular cultural architectural techniques of the Guishan Academy architecture, we can find the existing and potential different attitudes to realize the inheritance and deduction of the neo-vernacular architecture. At the same time based on the traditional vernacular architecture, we will consider the design techniques of traditional vernacular architecture of the new Guishan Academy on three aspects of material, creation, evolution, and finally extract the design thinking of this conceptual plan.Design process practice report, in entry point of the architecture in Song Dynasty paintings, sets the main design concept of "Harmonize into the landscape,derive from the vernacular architecture," and introduces the design technique "Superimposition ·Climax " , in order to realize the neo-vernacular conceptual design of Yuhang Guishan Academy. Through the deliberation and design on planning & layout, architectural space,facade modeling and epidermal materials and other aspects of the new Guishan Academy,it adopts the design pattern of stacking layer by layer, to achieve the technical heritage between ideal of honouring the teacher and respect his teaching and vernacular architecture, and create a new design plan of vernacular academy architecture full of poetic space. The design plan follows the layout of the Song Dynasty academy, setting a mountain gate, corridor,entrance frontcourt,auditorium area, library area and sacrifice area in the plane layout. In the building facade form, it lays emphasis on the refining and transformation of building components,skin materials and ancient architectural symbols;finally strengthens the interpretation of the spirit of site in this concept plan by the selection and application of traditional local materials. Then the design results come out.Through the conceptual design research of Guishan Academy, this report tries to find out the development trend of Zhejiang ancient academy communities and conforms to the cultural cognition and cultural identity of Zhejiang architecture, it analyzes its deep cultural pursuit and artistic aesthetics to provide theoretical support and practical support for heritage, protection or transformation application, to recognize and develop Zhejiang ancient academy architectural culture. Taking Yuhang Guishan Academy as the main design object, it inherits and carries forward the Zhejiang Academy as the concept of South-China cultural geography, more importantly, it is regarded as the extension and regeneration of cultural architecture, expanding the field of vernacular cultural architecture.
