Study On China-Greece COSCO Piraeus Port Development

The COSCO Piraeus Port is a model for the construction of the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road" under China's "One Belt One Road" initiative.Since the acquisition of Piraeus port in 2008,faced with the world downturn in shipping,COSCO SHIPPING Group still promoted Piraeus port achieve a contrarian rise.In 2016,China officially became the controlling shareholder of the Piraeus Port Authority and began to take over the operations of the Piraeus Port Authority.The successful construction of Piraeus Port has demonstrated the cooperation between China and other ports along the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road".This paper takes the Greek COSCO Piraeus Port as the research object,summarizes the characteristics of China-Europe investment and trade by the analysis on the temporal and spatial evolution of the gravity Center of China-Europe trade and investment,and introduce a method for the spatial structure and evolution of the coastal port system,analysis market concentration of ports in the European port system,explore the advantages of Chinese investment in Piraeus Port;summarizes the characteristics of investment and trade between China and Greece by analysis of the trade combination degree and the spatial linkage of global container shipping network,demonstrate the significance of Chinese investment in Piraeus Port;through regulate the process of the COSCO Piraeus Port,using the return on total assets to analyze the current development benefits of Piraeus Port,summarize the advantages,problems and challenges in the construction of COSCO Piraeus Port.Based on the full study,the paper makes the following conclusions.The emphasis on the development of localization and the emphasis on the protection of the agreement's legislation are important experience and inspiration for the development of COSCO Piraeus Port.In terms of the future development of COSCO Piraeus Port,enterprises can deepen their efforts in preventing political risks and broaden their business cooperation.The government can enhance the cooperation between governments,strengthen cooperation in infrastructure construction,and optimize bilateral trade between China and Greece.In terms of the future development of the"21st Century Maritime Silk Road",China can closely rely on ports along the route to promote the construction of overseas economic and trade cooperation zones.For Tianjin's participation in the construction of the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road",Tianjin can break through the development model and establish the "Free Port" development model.
