New media art technology has increasingly great influence on fashion industry. As an important part of fashion designers to express and show their designs, fashion exhibition has also been impacted by this trend. The client,London College of Fashion(LCF)is one of the best fashion design school allover the world.LCF has found new media art technology had a great potential in fashion industry and interested in doing explorations in this area.Gesture interaction is a rapidly developing interaction function.Great breakthroughs have been brought during recent years both in interaction design research and technic realization areas.Queen Mary University of London has turned to the study and practice of new media art technology including gesture interaction. With the market background,LCF and Queen Mary University of London(QMUL)started this project, gesture controlled catalog in fashion exhibition. The aim of this thesis is developing a new collaborative approach between fashion industry(education institutions)and interaction design and to explore the possibilities of fashion promotion by design and implementation of a gesture control catalog for fashion exhibition. This thesis is structured by the order of the actual design and implementation process, from project background, user research, system design, technology choice, implementation and evaluation. In this project, author has designed a gesture control catalog system for fashion exhibition and a technical solution connecting previous research and adding gesture control interaction in especially for Windows OS.Finally, this project was showed on LCF BA15(internal).The results provide a number of features of participant behavior, show the success and failure of the experimental system design, and could be used to inform gesture control interaction design as well as guide future research of new media art in fashion exhibition.
