With the rapid development of automobile industry, the automobile has been from the traditional vehicle gradually developed into a complex man-machine system. The mechanical control system and electrical system is changing to the direction of digital. With the advent of the Internet era, a large number of information systems are continuously poured i nto the car, the driver not only need to control a car, but also to deal with all kinds of information, including navigation, answering the phone, regulating audio. Although these functions bring the convenience to the driver to, it make the risk of drivin g increased. Hand gesture interaction is an emerging interactive method. It can provide the features of convenient manipulation on the car, but not increasing the dangerous driving conditions. At present, gesture interaction on the car is mainly used for n avigation, music and other applications, which applies simple gestures to control the corresponding interface, changes the traditional button style operation and sets up the interaction of the mainstream model based on screen operation as well as creates a new human vehicle interaction driving experience. In this study, through the investigation on the theory, method and tendency, we set up interactive design method based on users and target oriented. The designer and subjects were arranged together. By asking and talking, designers understand the subjects’ understanding and view to the BMW automobile gestures. The research data was analyzed and then it was translated to practice. Based on the psychology of distracted driving, driving workload and situationa l awareness, we try to find out the influence of different gestures on distracted driving, driving workload and situational awareness and find the gestures beneficial for both experience and driving, which consequencely provide better driving experience and more valuable information operating system.
