The Research And Practice Towards Consistency Of User's Mental Model In Gesture Interaction

Following the Internet, mobile Internet once again changed our lives, which are relying on the rapid growth of mobile product research and development. Compared to PC, mobile product design subject to many restrictions, such as screen size, diversified use of scenarios, personalized and so on. While mobile product interaction are dependent on gesture to a great extent, the usability and user experience of mobile product are decided by gesture interaction. On the other hand, usability and user experience are closely related to user mental model, which affect the action steps and thinking mode of users.First of all, the study discussed mental model's impact on usability and user experience of gesture interaction design from the perspective of consistency. In the study of consistency, two directions were put forward: the user's mental model and the product's design model. Through a variety of research methods, such as task analysis, user interviews, thinking aloud, card sorting, the user's mental model library and the product's design model library were extracted.By exploratory research of matching calculations, the two model libraries from consistency research were in comparative analysis, which would gain the matching score of test subjects. In the next experiment of user experience, the study measured subjects' gesture interactive experience level from users' objective performance and subjective feeling. Using usability testing and USE survey, the score of objective performance and subjective feeling were obtained to compare with matching score in the same dimension. The results found obvious positive correlation between three of them, which verified a positive performance of mental model on user experience, indicating that the mental model has important significance for gesture interaction design.The above experimental results were applied to process of a health management app's interaction design. In the preliminary investigation, there is a comprehensive analysis of industry background, application platform, competing products, combined with user needs, building a typical user roles and their mental models. Under the guidance of the mental model, the app's interactive scheme was completed. Organizing users together into USE questionnaire assessment to verified the user experience level of the app's gesture interaction design.
