A Comparative Study On The Decoration Of Traditional Residence In Hunan

Time and tide goes by,leaving historical traces.The past times cannot reproduce,but the accumulated cultural heritage tells the wisdom and achievements of the ancients of thousands of years.Traditional residences are treasures of traditional architectural arts.The decoration of the residences is a huge asset passing down from generation to generation.It contains a wealth of historical information and profound cultural accumulation,bearing the weight of the essence of Chinese traditional architectural culture.Modernization process is the devastative force to weaken the traditional concept.With this kind of digestion intensified,excellent traditional residences with rich regional characteristics rarely survived.As an important part of the traditional residences,traditional decoration is also a significant basis for the recognition and interpretation of regional character and the traditional value.We have responsibilities and duties to explore,protect and inherit it.The study of traditional residences’ decoration is divided into four parts:The first chapter puts forward the problem,expounds the research background,content,purpose,significance and the research status in the field.The scope of the research is defined.Some related concepts are analyzed.The research methods are determined.The second chapter introduces the geographical environment and cultural background of Hunan,and analyzes the main features of traditional residences in Hunan according to the distribution.It is the basis of the research.The third chapter is about to solve the problem.On the basis of material accumulation,indirect surveys and a series of on-the-spot investigations,the general characteristics of decoration of traditional residences in central Hunan,western Hunan and southern Hunan are specifically described according to decoration’s different positions in the house.Research objects are summarized in the framework and order.The fourth and fifth chapter explore a further solution.The decorative expression,decorative themes and decorative materials are compared and analyzed.These decorative phenomena are vertically linked to their traditional essence.Regional culture is the cause and foundation stone.The sixth chapter is the summary and thoughts of the research.The diversity and unity of decoration of traditional residences in Hunan are concluded.The reasons for its application and inheritance are analyzed.As a cultural heritage,the value of decoration in traditional residences is affirmed.And two key points in the practice of protection and inheritance are put forward.Finally,the main work done in this research are concluded.
