As a part of Huxiang culture, house decoration in south of Hunan province is a flower of traditional house decoration culture. As its special geography environment, it has unique decoration character, culture meaning and shape, and has good study value in history, science, architecture and craftwork.House decoration form is different because of different nationality, class degree, age, material, technique and economy. Influenced by nature conditions, nation culture, religion, life habitude and taste consciousness, house decoration in south of Hunan province has strong geography character. The author started from natural resources, culture history, decoration character, shape rule and culture meaning, ended in how to inaugurate the use way of house decoration art in south of Hunan province and inherit it better.This thesis analyzed the decoration character of house decoration in south of Hunan province from decorative material, main decorative parts, theme and content of vignette, decorative color, discussed the unique decorative art form of it——wood and woodcarving, stone and stone carving, clay produce and mold artwork, and lacquer; then the thesis did the serious research to the main decorative parts——door, window, partition fan, girder and furniture, and summed up both decorative theme and decorative content——folklore, rare animals, rare flowers, drama and geometry shape. As a whole, house decoration in south of Hunan province presented grayer character. Along with the venation of decorative character, the thesis deeply analyzed its inside culture meaning and decorative art. Culture meaning of house decoration in south of Hunan province is colorful representing the nature view of the ancients, geomantic view, ethic view and philosophy. Decorative theme transfigured, decorative pattern polted, decorative shape formulized are the rule of it. The thesis based on the study of decorative future in house decoration in south of Hunan province, discussed how to inherit and develop it, solved its problems, looked for the methods for traditional artwork linking up environment art design, pointed out three ways for inheriting and developing——keeping basic shape, inaugurating, exhibition language and inaugurating using ways.
