Research On The Influence Of Air Pollution On Enterprise Innovation

For a long time,rapid economic growth and profound change of the ecological environment have been the two distinctive features in the process of social development of China.Over-reliance on energy consumption has forced China to face the ecological unbalance and environmental pollution caused by economic development.The problem of air pollution is extremely urgent and has become a hidden danger threatening the overall social development and people's livelihood.In recent years,the increasingly severe situation of domestic resource constraints has become an established fact.The traditional high-pollution,high-energy-consumption extensive growth model has declined gradually.Innovation is the dynamic source for economic growth and the important engine for cultivating competitive advantage and enhancing economic strength.Enterprises,as micro production subjects,are the major carriers of independent innovation and technological advancement.At the same time,the innovation behavior of micro-enterprise individuals will also form a total effect on the whole,which will affect the implementation of relevant regulatory policies to varying degrees.Based on the background of the “new normal” economic construction,the pursuit of an efficient growth model driven by innovation is the best choice for achieving the “win-win” goal of economic development and ecological optimization.It is of increasingly significance to explore the internal connection between air pollution and enterprise innovation in the context of green production and innovation-driven development.This paper attempts to study the impact of environmental pollution on corporate behavior.For the first time,air pollution and enterprise innovation are placed in a unified framework to explore,we try to analyze how air pollution affects enterprise innovation,what impact it will have,Further research shows that the impact of air pollution on corporate innovation when conditions differ.This paper believes that air pollution affects enterprise innovation through enterprise cost and human resources,with four aspects: capital crowding out,human resource loss,process innovation compensation,and management innovation compensation.Based on the mechanism analysis,this paper selects the World Bank's 2012 micro-survey data on Chinese enterprises and air pollution data at the city level,and compares the two with macro and micro,respectively,how air pollution affects process innovation,management inno-vation and R&D investment.We find that because of “process innovation compensation effect” and “management innovation compensation effect”,air pollution has a positive impact on process innovation and management innovation.But due to the “crowding out effect of capital” and “the loss effect of human resources”,air pollution has a negative impact on R&D investment.Further research shows that with different corporate productivity,marketization degree and scale of location,the impact of air pollution on enterprise innovation varies.In addition,considering the endogenous problems,this paper uses the M2 SLS method to solve and conducts different forms of robustness test to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the conclusion.The conclusions drawn in this paper provide corresponding policy recommendations and decision-making basis for better optimizing the ecological environment to promote enterprise innovation.
