An Empirical Study On The Motivation Of Rightful Environmental Resistance And Its Mechanism

Eco-environmental issues and social sustainable development have been recognized as one of the most challenging problems in the 21^st century.In recent years,with the diversification of interests and contradictions in the process of social transformation,China's society has entered a period with prominent social conflicts.Environmental governance and citizens'environmental resistances have received great attention from both theoretical and practical levels.Due to the frequent occurrence of environmental group events and the severe consequences,the previous studies on environmental resistances are mostly focused on the containment,diversion,and control mechanisms,while ignoring that some of the environmental resistances are rightful and institutional.Meanwhile,more and more scholars proposed to transform from environmental resistance control to environmental resistance governance,which the main way is to encourage citizens to adopt rightful environmental resistances.In order to explore the motivation of citizens'institutional environmental resistance behavior,this article sorts out the two main intrinsic motivations that lead to civil environmental resistances based on the existing literature as the main research framework,namely,the interest-calculation motivation based on rational paradigm and the value-oriented motivation based on identity paradigm.Combined with the Value-Belief-Norm theory and the social amplification of risk theory,a quantitative analysis was taken to explore the factors affecting institutional environmental protests of Chinese citizens.Based on the data of China General Social Survey?CGSS?in 2013,the experiment validates the interest-calculation motivation and value-oriented motivation while the interest-calculation one is still the dominant factor.Further analysis of the specific mechanism,under the interest-calculation motivation,verifies the complete mediating role of environmental risk perception between environmental cognition and rightful environmental resistances and the moderating role of local government environmental governance satisfaction between environmental risk perception and rightful environmental resistances.Finance statistical yearbook data was used to explain the different impact of central and local government environmental governance satisfaction.Eventually,this article proposes advice to encourage citizen's institutional environmental protests based on two motivations and influence paths.This article is divided into five chapters:The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly concludes the research background,research significance,research ideas,research methods,and literature review.The second chapter is the concept definition and basic theory.The third chapter is research design.It mainly expounds the construction of the model and its basis,as well as the selection and processing of experimental data sources and variables.The fourth chapter conducts an empirical study on the motivation of rightful environmental resistances and the specific mechanism under the interest-calculation motivation.Further analysis to the experimental results is shown on the basis of verifying hypothesis.The fifth chapter summarizes the conclusions of data analysis and puts forward corresponding suggestions for improving the level of civil rightful environmental resistances.
