Re-studying Of Yrj(?) Kukkapuro Design Thinking

Yrj(?) Kukkapuro is a Finnish modern furniture design master who is still active in the design field.He is known with researching on ergonomics which his design based on.In 1998,Kukkapuro was introduced to China and had a positive impact on development of China's furniture design.During the period,there were many research and literature related to it.But most of the attention to Kukkaprup is in its Design before the 1980 s,especially the Karuselli 412 and Fysio office chairs designed on the principle of “reflecting the human body curve” which even became a personal label for Kukkapuro,but in fact,Kukkapuro 's exploration of the seat design goes far beyond this.This thesis attempts to review the design of the Kukkapuro's chair design again with a wider scale and current ergonomic research in order to research further.The thesis is based on the existing literature on Kukkapuro,and analyzing with the historical research,the literature research and the case study.Kukkapuro's works were divided into pre-and post-period according to he designed of the chair with ecological thought in the 1980 s.The analysis shows the prototype of Kukkapuro's chair design of the early and late.Early works were focused on "reflecting the human body curve",The works based on this principle became the classic representative of ergonomic chair at that time.However,the design of early chairs has limitations in ergonomics,such as ignoring the differences in body size and shape and changing postures.In the later stage,the design principle that was pursued in the early stage “reflects the human body curve” changed into a seat and a backrest with straight surface,On the one hand,the straight seat and back can save processing cost and packaging volume of chair disassembly and assembly,on the other hand the seat and backrest with straight surface can be adapted to more people who are difference in body size and shape probably.In Kukkappuro's chair design,the seat and backrest with different inclination angles and sizes correspond to different sitting postures.The tilting seating allows one to obtain better comfort when leaning back against the backrest,on the other hand other postures are limited and repelled.Tracing the modern science as the basis of ergonomics,the limitation of ergonomics lies in mechanizing and digitizing the human body,erasing the complexity and diversity of the human,which is the foundation of ergonomics contradictorily.This contradiction is limited to the library.Kukkapuro 's chair design is reflected in the design as well.Taking the reflection of contemporary science,consideration of Chinese traditional chairs function as a guide,trying to explore how to coordinate the contradiction in ergonomics in the chair design by the practice,supplementing the chair ergonomic study of Kukkapuro.
