Classroom is an important base where the teaching and learning is undertaken, and is the site where the teacher and student works and studies. How to create a pleasant environment in the classroom is of importance for the effects of the teacher's teaching and student's learning.We employs the principles of ergonomics, integrating the theory of modern computer control, statistics and system engineering, to investigate the status of the desk and chair utility in primary and middle schools in Wuxi city. By measuring the bodies of the pupils, making inquiry questions to students and teachers, we drew the following conclusions.(1) By close investigation to the national criteria -"Functional sizes of chairs and desks For educational institutions", we determine the key design parameters of the desk and chair, the measuring methods and the selection reference of body percentage and static size. Applying principles of ergonomics and anthroponomy, we propose the fundamentals of desk and chair design.(2) Employing LabVIEW software platform with graphic programming language, using resistive pressure sensor as seat pressure probe, applying the combination of sensor array detection and data fitting, we construct the testing system of seat pressure distribution and realize the three-dimensional and two-dimensional color display of seat pressure distribution. We also validate the necessity of the matching between the height of seat and the sitting height of body by testing the seat pressure distribution when the student sit on seat with three different height and by three different postures.(3) In 2005, we spot checked 3494 male and female students aged for 6 to 18 with 52 age sections and make a comparison with data of spot check in 1985. Thus we conclude that the height of the student in elementary school increase by 4 cm on average.(4) We measured and made a statistic analysis on the height of students aged from 7 to 18 every five yes, and predict the height in 2010, 2015 and 2020.(5) We made a spot check on the desk and chair used in three primary schools and find out that the function and size of the desk and chair have much difference with the national standard and the categories of the fixed desk and chair are also fewer than those required by the national standard. The desk and chair has no label of type and the height range of desk user. The mismatch between the student's height and desk and chair is so serious that it is apt to make the student to change his posture constantly and thus result in waist-ache, backache and Asth. It may also make a negative impact on the attention and emotion fluctuation of the students and thus on their learning efficiency. We propose a project of equipping the desk and chair for schools which can enhance the match rate at which the height of the student matches the desk and chair.
