Ecosystem services are the bridge between human well-being and natural capital.It is of great significance to discuss the spatio-temporal dynamics and trade-offs of ecosystem services for the realization of regional sustainable development in arid regions.Ulan Buh Desert in Inner Mongolia region was selected as the study area.Based on the ecosystem service framework proposed by the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment,using GIS technology,RUSLE,InVEST models and methods,combined with field research,characterize the temporal and spatial dynamics of land use/coverage in Ulan Buh Desert in the past 30 years(1990 ~ 2018).Quantitatively calculated the water retention services,soil conservation services and net primary productivity of Ulan Buh Desert in the past 30 years and analyzed the spatial and temporal patterns and evolution characteristics of ecosystem services,used correlation analysis to explore the trade-off relationship between ecosystem services in the study area,identifying multiple ecosystem service hotspots through hotspot overlay analysis.The following conclusions were drawn:(1)Research period 1990 ~ 2018,land use/cover change in Ulan Buh Desert changed intensely.The area of cultivated land,forest land and fixed dune increased significantly,while that of mobile dune decreased significantly,and the area of mobile dune was mainly transformed to semi-mobile dune and fixed dune.(2)In the past 30 years,water retention services and net primary productivity services in ulanbuhe desert decreased first and then increased with time,while soil conservation services showed an increasing trend In terms of spatial distribution,the high value areas of water retention services are mainly distributed in the north and the west.Soil conservation and net primary productivity services decreased gradually from north to south.At the township level,water retention and net primary productivity services decreased first and then increased,while soil conservation services showed an increasing trend.(3)In the past 30 years,net primary productivity and water retention have shown a synergistic relationship.Soil conservation and net primary productivity showed a trade-offs relationship between 1990 and 2000,and a synergistic relationship between 2000 and 2010.Soil conservation and water retention showed a synergistic relationship between 1990 and 2010,and the performance was trade-off between 2010 and 2018.Hotspot analysis showed that type-3 service areas were mainly located in the eastern part of Wusitai Town and the northern part of Shajintaohai Town.
