Baima Tibetan,a unique ethnic group,lives in northwest Sichuan and Longnan area,where ethnic minorities have inhabited since ancient times.The special natural environment,economic-ecological environment as well as social-ecological environment contributes to the ancient and unique ethnic cul?ture of Baima Tibetan.During each Spring Festival,Baima Tibetan will hold folk activities such as expelling the evil spirit,disease and disasters,and worshiping gods in order to pray for good luck and peace.One significant element is the mask which symbolizes the spiritual life of Baima Tibetan.Baima Tibetan created folk masks as they worshiped nature gods and ancestors.Meanwhile,over the course of history,the masks were integrated with Han culture,Tibetan culture and Qiang culture,and were also influenced by Buddhism and Taoism.However,folk activities and the creation of mask art between Baima Tibetan in northwest Sichuan and Longnan regions are different due to their regions.The folk masks of Baima Tibetan in northwest Sichuan and Longnan areas were compared and analyzed.The characteristics of "Cao-Gai" mask in Pingwu,Sichuan,Zhou-Wu" mask in Jiuzhaigou,as well as "Chi-Ge-Zhou" mask Wen County,Gansu Province were introduced.Plus,the art features of their designs and cultural characteristics were compared,discussed and analyzed,thus the style and characteristics of Baima Tibetan mask in the northwest Sichuan and Longnan area are summarized.Through combining with the current development of activities and folk mask of Baima Tibetan folk,the question how Baima Tibetan folk mask survives and develops in the context of the new culture was raised,and some suggestions for the sustainable development of Baima Tibetan folk mask were put forward.
