The Historical Evolution Of Craftsman Spirit In Suzhou Embroidery

Suzhou embroidery has a long history,which originated from the decoration of the body,and thrived in the new millennium which had beautiful clothing.From written records of Han dynasty to the popularity of “painting embroidery” in Song dynasty,then got popularity of the boudoir embroidery in the Ming dynasty,and the creation of modern artificial embroidery and virtual needlework,the artistic style and skills of Suzhou embroidery have evolved constantly.Through the continuous exploration of the craftsman spirit and the subtle influence of literati,Suzhou embroidery finally formed the artistic style of “fine,thin,elegant and clean”,ranking first among the “four famous embroideries” in China.This paper mainly focuses on the spirit of craftsman who has been in the industry of Suzhou embroidery for a long time and has been developing continuously.Using some method such as literature review,data collection,field research and so on.collected a lot of information about the history of Suzhou embroidery,Wu culture,the development of Suzhou embroidery,and the creation and inheritance of contemporary Suzhou embroidery.By combing the main stage of the development of Suzhou embroidery art,analyzing its typical representative characters and embroidery techniques,and exploring the spirit of craftsman embodied in it,this article try to sum up the development and evolution of the spirit of the craftsman in the past dynasties and extracts the typical features,and reveals the important role of artisan spirit in the development and vicissitude of traditional handicraft industry in China.Through research,we can found that as a traditional handicraft industry in China,craftsman spirits in Suzhou embroidery has distinctive features.On the one hand,Suzhou embroidery is influenced by social culture,politics and economy in various periods.In addition,the expansion of the demand for embroidery products has promoted the content of Suzhou embroidery itself,and the scale of the industry has been expanding.On the other hand,the expansion of the size of the Suzhou embroidery industry and the rich content of the content have made the demands of the embroidery skills of the society at various levels correspondingly improved,and the spirit of craftsman has developed and matured.The purpose of this paper is to explore the historical significance and contemporary value of the craftsman's spirit from the perspective of craftsman's spirit.The craftsman spirit is both a historical category and a logical category,therefore,this paper divided the period of Suzhou embroidery industry according to traditional Suzhou embroidery,modern embroidery and contemporary Suzhou embroidery.tried to find typical characters or works of artisan spirit from various historical periods and analyze and refine the characteristics of the spirit of craftsman.grasped the development and innovation of craftsman spirit in a certain logical order,expected to provide some enlightenment for the future development trend of craftsman spirit in the embroidery industry and other traditional handicraft industry.
