Research On Mathematical Papers In Sichuan Journals In The Late Qing Dynasty And The Republic Of China(1897-1949)

Sichuan is located in the southwestern part of China's inland,and there were few academic exchanges of mathematics in Sichuan before the 19 th century.After the publication of Chongqing daily,the first modern newspaper in Sichuan in 1897,mathematical papers began to be published in Sichuan journals.Until 1949,the number of the papers was not less than 300.At present,most of the researches focus on the history of journals,but few are on mathematical papers.The soul of the journals should be its content.Researching the content of mathematical papers in the Late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China can present the level of Sichuan mathematics in this period and reflect the state of Sichuan mathematics teaching and researches,which has important significance for finding clues to the development of mathematical disciplines and the laws of mathematical research dissemination.After consulting the Sichuan original literature of the Journals collected by Sichuan Provincial Library,Sichuan Archives,Sichuan University Library,Chongqing Local Literature Museum,Chongqing University Ancient Books Library,Shanghai Library and other places,combining relevant monographs and existing research papers,and analyzing the original journals.This thesis clarifies the backgrounds of the journals that published the mathematical papers,the contents of the mathematical papers and the author groups.The specific research contents and research conclusions are as follows:(1)The background of the Sichuan journals: Different academic research groups in Sichuan have established journals,which are divided into four categories: official,private,school and academic groups.At present,there are 31 kinds of journals(including cooperative journals)that have published mathematical papers,which are divided into three kinds of types: professional journals of mathematics,comprehensive journals of science and comprehensive journals of education.The study found that the number of journals that published mathematical papers was relatively large in this period,the types of the journals were rich,and the topics of the papers were mostly related to practice.However,the issue of journals was not continuous and the duration was not long,so the continuous influence of journals was insufficient.(2)Research contents of the mathematical papers:There were 306 mathematical papers from 1897 to 1949,but there were only 77 before 1937.It can be found that the research topics include the study of mathematics problems in primary and secondary schools,the study of mathematics problems in colleges and universities,and the study of mathematics in teaching problems.During this period,the number of mathematical papers in this period ranged from small to large,the research topics of the papers ranged from single to rich,and the level of the papers ranged from shallow to deep.However,the research topics in this period mainly focused on the study of mathematics problems in primary and secondary schools.While there were fewer research papers on higher mathematics and mathematical education.(3)Author groups of the mathematical papers:There are three kinds of groups occupying important positions in academic research in mathematics and mathematical education: a group of primary education authors who are primary and secondary school teachers and students,a group of higher education authors who are mainly professors in institutions of higher learning,and the author group of social education mainly composed of folk mathematics researchers.They play an important role in the dissemination and development of mathematics education.As the core groups grasping the development trend of Mathematical Education,they play two kinds of roles—mathematical academic researchers and mathematical education communicators.In the end,it is concluded that in order to promote the prosperity and spread of mathematical academic research,firstly,it is necessary to pay attention to the specialization of journals to improve the level of mathematical research.And excavate the depth of mathematical research to strengthen the relationship between mathematical research and other sciences.Furthermore,we could establish different mathematical research groups and advocate different groups for mathematical research.
