China is one of the countries with the most severe natural disasters in the world.Among them, earthquakes have caused the most casualties and massive economic losses in recent years. After a significant earthquake disaster occurs,self-help and mutual rescue play an essential role in disaster relief. They are preventing and dissolving risks from the beginning, enhancing the public's awareness of disaster prevention and disaster preparedness, and improving the social resilience to respond to earthquake disasters in the future are fundamental ways to complete the emergency management goals in the new era. Therefore, understanding the public's earthquake emergency preparedness and analyzing the restrictive factors that affect earthquake emergency preparedness have significant practical and policy research significance for improving earthquake prevention and mitigation and seeking the source to reduce earthquake disasters. This research uses data of a questionnaire survey to describe the current situation public earthquake emergency preparedness in China, analyzes specific problems and influencing factors, and discusses policy recommendations to improve public earthquake emergency preparedness. The study found that the public earthquake emergency preparedness in China has the following characteristics:First, there is a positive correlation between risk perception and earthquake emergency preparedness.Respondents recognize that the area where they live is at risk of earthquakes, more actively prepared for earthquake emergencies.Second, the more the public recognizes that individuals have responsibility for earthquake preparedness and disaster reduction, the more likely it is to carry out earthquake emergency preparedness activities.Respondents who believe that the disaster reduction's responsibility lies with the government will neglect with earthquake emergency preparedness.Third, the experience of earthquakes would encourage individuals to prepare for an emergency. The respondents' are more likely to qualify for an earthquake if there have been earthquakes in their province. The higher the magnitude of the earthquake one experienced, the more they would likely prepare for the shock.Fourth, there are differences in gender, occupation, income, and educational background in the Chinese public's earthquake preparedness behavior. The earthquake emergency preparedness of male respondents was better than that of females. The earthquake emergency preparedness of respondents working in government was better than that of corporate respondents, and those with high income and high education had better emergency preparedness. Finally, this study provides policy recommendations for public education on earthquake disaster prevention and mitigation and policy recommendations on the accuracy of earthquake emergency publicity and educational products.Correctly, earthquake emergency education should combine the earthquake risks of different regions and different groups of people. At the same time, earthquake emergency education should pay attention to the promotion of insurance knowledge and earthquake fortification knowledge.
