Study On Improving The Public Awareness Of The Earthquake Preparedness And Disaster Mitigation In Gansu Earthquake Administratin Bureau

Gansu province is located in the west of China, according to geotectonic condition it is seated on the north and northeast of Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. Due to the active tectonic development, the seismic activity in Gansu is strong and many destructive earthquakes have been occurred in its history. The Earthquake Administration Bureau of Gansu Province is functioning to earthquake preparedness and disaster mitigation (EPDM) in the whole province. Along with dozens years of development, it has initially established public service system for earthquake preparedness and disaster mitigation. However, the awareness of public service is still comparatively weak.As an important part of EPDM measures, public awareness will help the society get knowledge of EPDM and strengthen the ability of EPDM. Public awareness is also one of the important means of controlling the loss of earthquake and disaster at the minimum extent. The thesis analyzes the current situation of public awareness of EPDM in the Earthquake Bureau of Gansu Province, using the method of demand-oriented to summarize the existing problems and shortages. It will give suggestions on improving public awareness of EPDM in Gansu through the following seven ways, which are, actively service, institution, timetable, social medium involvement, press mechanism, internet propaganda, and publicity in rural areas.
