The Yangtze River Economic Belt is the basin economic zone with the highest economic density in China.It is also an urban dense belt in China,connecting the three major urban agglomerations of the Yangtze River Delta,the middle reaches of the Yangtze River,and the Chengdu-Chongqing City Cluster.In recent years,with the rapid development of China's urbanization,the Yangtze River Economic Belt has experienced the process of rural population agglomeration to cities,urban scale expansion and social and economic development.However,the rapid development of urbanization has led to a series of ecological and environmental problems,especially atmospheric pollution,which has caused great harm to humans and their living environment,and even restricted the development of urbanization.Therefore,coordinating the relationship between urbanization and atmospheric environment is of great significance for promoting sustainable urban development.Based on the domestic and foreign urbanization system and atmospheric environment system theories and related research results,combined with the actual situation of the Yangtze River Economic Belt,this paper builds a comprehensive evaluation index system for the urbanization and atmospheric environment of the Yangtze River Economic Belt,and introduces a comprehensive development level index model and the coupling coordination degree model to calculate the urbanization development level,atmospheric environment development level of 11 provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from 2006 to 2015,and the coupling and coordination development level of the two.Using ArcGIS to analyze the spatial and temporal evolution of urbanization,atmospheric environment,and the level of coupling and coordination between the two provinces and cities,to explore its spatial differences.The spatial autocorrelation method is used to analyze the correlation between the coupling degree of urbanization and atmospheric environment among the provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt,and to explore its spatial structure characteristics and aggregation laws.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)The overall trend of urbanization,atmospheric environment and the coupled and coordinated development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt is good.The level of urbanization continues to rise.The level of atmospheric development and the degree of coupling coordination fluctuate.All provinces and cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt have undergone a transition from poor to good or better to better.(2)The urbanization,atmospheric environment and the coupling and coordinated development level of the Yangtze River Economic Belt have significant regional differences.The development level of urbanization and the coupling coordination degree are both high in the lower reaches and low in the middle and upper reaches,and the level of atmospheric environment is high in the middle reaches and low in the upper and lower reaches.(3)The coupling coordination degree of urbanization and atmospheric environment in the Yangtze River Economic Belt presents a significant spatial positive correlation.The coupling and coordination degree of the provinces and cities in the region and the neighboring provinces and cities are interrelated and interdependent.It shows that the areas with high coupling coordination gather together,and the areas with low coupling coordination gather with each other.
