A Preliminary Study On The Taxonomy Of The Tribe Stenochiini From Hainan Island(coleoptera:Tenebrionidae)

This thesis is focused on taxonomic study of the tribe Stenochiini from Hainan Island,the fauna and geographical distribution of Stenochiini from Hainan are discussed,some data of the biology and a checklist of Stenochiini from Vietnam are also presented.it is comprised of six chapters.All these researches must be based on specimens collection and borrowing,type and determined specimens by examination.The main results of this work as followed:1.In the section of classification,2 genera and 22 species of Stenochiini from Hainan Island are described detailedly,including citation,type locality,type depository,examined materials and distribution etc.In the end,22 plates are provided in this thesis,including 17 illustrations and 18 habitus.3 species are recorded to China for the first time:Strongylium fissicolle Fairmaire,1903;S.clermonti Pic,1927;S.viridimembris Pic,1922.14 new species are described:Stenochinus zhengi sp.nov.;Strongylium diaoluoshanense sp.nov.;S.yini sp.nov.;S.shuimanense sp.nov.;S.lingshuiense sp.nov.;S.hainanense sp.nov.;S.yangae sp.nov.;S.qiongzhongense sp.nov.;S.limushanense sp.nov.;S.reni sp.nov.;S.pengi sp.nov.;S.xiaoyui sp.nov.;S.cheni sp.nov.;S.wangae sp.nov.2.The biology of Stenochiini were observed,and 2 figures are provided in this section.3.The features of faunistic study of Stenochiini from Hainan as follows:(1)2 genera and 22 species of Stenochiini from Hainan are revised,and all species distributed in the Oriental region,and mainly distributed in South China(19 species),endemic species of Hainan Island are very plentiful with 14 species and 63.63% of the total species.(2)Subtropical-tropical distribution.According to the zoo-geography fauna of China,the faunistic components of Stenochiini from Hainan are confined to Southern China region,the components of Central China region and Southwestern China region take second and third place respectively.(3)Most stenochid species distributed in a narrow region.There are a few species distributed in two region or more than.(4)Stenochiini of Hainan mainly distributed in tropical rainforest.Stenochiini of Hainan are mainly distributed in the central and southern regions with Qiongzhong,Ledong and Wuzhishan as the center,the distributional range of Stenochiini corresponds to that of the tropical rainforest in Hainan.
