The residential area square is not only an important space for the outdoor activities in the residential area,but also the outdoor space of the most frequency for the routine activities of the elderly.Due to the special climate,an residential area in a cold area is of low degree of comfort in the microclimate in so-me seasons,influencing the activities of the persons using the Residential area.The degree of comfort in the microclimate of an residential area also influences the activities of the elderly who is the population mainly using such square and having special physiological features.The design of an residential area in a cold area,represented by Harbin,should not only consider the increasingly more severe aging in the area,but also consider the influences of coldness.Therefore,it is really significant to study the relation between the activities of the elderly using an residential area in a cold area and the microclimate of the Residential area,and propose targeted strategies in the design.The author has sorted out the researches on features of the elderly,the space of the Residential area,the environmental behavior and the microclimate,laying academic basis for the research on the influences of the microclimate of an residential area on the behaviors of the elderly.By screening all residential areas in Harbin,determining research date,site visit and statistics of data,the author conducted qualitative as well as quantitative analysis.Through questionnaire inquiry,interview and behavior and map marking in the selected estates,the information of the active elderly in residential areas and their environmental behavior features were recorded and the relation among the elderly's activity category,activities,time and space were analyzed.In addition,when the activities were recorded,the microclimates of the residential areas were also tested in different points in order to record the temperature,humidity and wind velocity in the residential areas and preliminarily analyze as well as summarize the changes in microclimates in the Residential areas during the time of activities in transitional seasons Based on the real data of microclimate,the author determined the appropriate model computing the degree of comfort in microclimate by screening to figure out the value of the degree of comfort in the residential areas.By statistical analysis,the relation between microclimate and the elderly's activities was analyzed.By using correlation analysis,a kind of statistical analysis,the author analyzed the activity elderly and the degree of comport in residential areas and determined there is correlation between them.By using regression analysis,also a kind of statistical analysis,the author built the model reflecting the relation between the value of degree of comfort in microclimate and the value of the active elderly and further determined the change of the degree of comfort would change the quantity of the active elderly.In the analysis,the author found the degree of comfort in microclimate is the primary factor influencing the elderly's activities in the space of a square,but it is not unique.Then the author analyzed the relation between the degree of comfort in microclimate and the active frequency of the elderly in the space of a square by using comparative analysis and through streamlining the spaces of the residential areas,determining the factors influencing the activities of the elderly in an Residential area,such as microclimate.To be concluded,by qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis,the author figured out the relation between the elderly's activities and microclimate in residential areas in transitional seasons as well as the primary factor influencing the activities of the elderly microclimate environment and finally proposed the strategies for designing the Residential areas in a cold area based on quantitative analysis in order to realize the objective of people foremost.
