"Humanitarian engineering" is a new trend of thought that has emerged recently in engineering ethics circles and engineering education circles in the West.The idea of humanitarian engineering is a new idea formed by the combination of“humanitarianism”and“engineering”.”Humanitarian engineering“refers to the engineer for the purpose of humanistic care,the use of engineering and technology to meet the people(especially vulnerable groups,poverty groups,groups or other marginalized groups)of the basic needs,so as to promote the realization of social fairness and justice.Engineering is often considered a "tremendous source of energy disposal nature,to human use,convenient for people seeking".They never thought that it had a connection with humanitarianism,while humanitarianism was "satisfying human needs to alleviate human suffering,with positive Sympathy,the purpose is to meet the needs of all people,especially those who have no power,no money,or other marginalized people."Humanitarianism and engineering are rarely linked.The idea of humanitarian engineering gives new social attributes to project,making the project a path for achieving humanitarian goals and achieving an organic integration of humanism and engineering.The emergence of humanitarian engineering thoughts has a profound background and theoretical basis.Frederick Kearney used his "Kearney method" and the post-disaster rescue method in the eyes of engineers to allow humanitarian engineering ideas to sprout and could be considered as the first humanitarian engineer.The "experienced turn" and"ethical turn" of the philosophy of technology and the subsequent emphasis on technical ethical issues in society have provided a good opportunity for the emergence of humanitarian engineering.Humanitarian engineering has an interdisciplinary theoretical basis.Aberhan Maslow's theory of needs,C.P Snow's "two cultures",and technical intermediary theory have laid a theoretical foundation for humanitarian engineering thought.Humanitarian engineering has important significance both on the theoretical level and on the practical level.On the theoretical level,humanitarian engineering ideas provide a new approach for the communication of natural science knowledge and humanities scientific knowledge.The advantages of embodying the turning of internalism of technological ethics make up for the shortcomings of the external ethics research approach of technological ethics;On the practical level,humanitarian projects have organically combined humanitarian thinking and engineering practice and are pursuing well-being for marginalized people whose basic needs in the world cannot be met.Humanitarian engineering has had a wide range of impacts in Western engineering education and engineering practice.Many universities have established humanitarian engineering centers and established humanitarian engineering minor courses.The establishment of the Humanitarian Engineering Center and the opening of related courses as the study of this ideology have provided interdisciplinary talents in different fields,and have also given support to the practice of humanitarian engineering.At the same time,the teachers and students at these centers have carried out many humanitarian engineering practices in various areas of the world,especially in underdeveloped regions.This has played an important role in enriching and developing humanitarianism.Humanitarian projects and China's poverty alleviation project by science and technology have a certain degree of agreement.Therefore,it is necessary for us to conduct a comparative analysis of the two,to learn from successful experiences that are conducive to our current practice of poverty alleviation through science and technology,promote the implementation of the poverty alleviation strategy in China.
