The Analysis On Evolutive Characteristics And Determinants Of China's Export Products Technology Content

Since the reform and opening up,China's foreign trade has made remarkable achievements.At present,China has become the largest exporter of goods and the second largest importer of goods all over the world,and its trade structure has improved.Although China has made a series of achievements,it is still a big trading country rather than a trade power.China is still at the low end of the global value chain division system.At the same time,with the gradual disappearance of China's traditional comparative advantage,the trade conditions are deteriorating.In this paper,China's export data from 2001 to 2015 were used to study the changes of China's exports.By using statistic analysis method and Hausman export product complexity index,the author analyzes the evolutive characteristics of China's export technology content after joining WTO from two angles of qualitative and quantitative.Per capita GDP,foreign direct investment,human capital,country size and research expenditure were used as explanatory variables to analyze the determinants of export product technology content.Using multi-dimensional measurements to analyze the technology content of export products,the author found that China's export products technology content has improved after joining WTO.However,compared with the developed countries China still has a lot of room for improvement.China's export product technology content increased rapidly from 2001 to 2006,and the growth rate slowed down significantly after 2006.Per capita GDP and research expenditure have significant positive effect on China's export product technology content.However,human capital and country size have a significant negative effect,and foreign direct investment has no effect on export product technology content.In the long run,human capital and foreign direct investment are still important factors to promote export product technology content.The study on China's export product development status and its determinants help to realize and understand China's export product technology content,which has important practical significance for the optimization of China's export products structure and construction of new advantage.
