The Development Status,Problems,and Countermeasures Of Youth Hostels In Guangzhou

With the continuous improvement of our country's economic level and material conditions,great progress has been achieved in the aspect of tourism industry.And the public's ways and concepts on travelling have also changed a lot,which are embodied in the situation where the tourists want to have deeper and more unique travel experience.Because of youth hotels' emphases on interpersonal communication,cultural exchanges,low prices and other positive characteristics,they have survived and thrived in this constantly developing society.The positive development trend of youth hostel industry functions actively in optimizing the structure of city accommodation,reflecting city characteristics,highlighting city cultures,promoting the competitiveness of urban tourism and supplementing the science and education duties of cities.Therefore,how to coordinate the youth hostels' development with cities' update so as to form a balanced interactive relationship is worth further exploration and research.Youth hostels,with the traits of localization and modernization,have existed in China for nearly 20 years and inevitably there are also some problems.Guangzhou,as our country's third largest city of Southern China,the region's political,cultural and economic center,is also the pioneer and portal of reforming & opening up and foreign exchanges,where there are a large number of youth hostels.It is of great theoretical value and practical significance to research on development status,existing problems and countermeasures of the youth hotels in Guangzhou City.First of all,this dissertation is based on the access and analysis of network data.The author discussed the general situation of youth hostels in Guangzhou City from the aspects of spatial distribution,opening time and price distribution.In terms of spatial distribution,most youth hostels are concentrated in the downtown area of Guangzhou.The concentration ratio of youth hostels in Guangzhou City is higher compared with other types of hotels,and the youth hostels are mainly distributed along the subway lines and sites,and the commercial center & scenic spot matching degree is not high;In terms of opening time,the number of youth hostels in Guangzhou increased remarkably and quickly;In terms of price distribution,the price of youth hostels in Guangzhou is characterized by lower average price and normal distribution.Secondly,according to the actual situation,the youth hostels in Guangzhou were divided into two types: large youth hostels on formal operation and small family youth hostels in informal business.In addition,large youth hostels on formal operation can be ulteriorly divided into International chain youth hostels and independent large youth hostels based on the condition that whether these hotels have joined International Youth Hostel Association.According to this classification,the author selected the target people,designed a questionnaire and carried out a comprehensive survey of different types of youth hotels in Guangzhou.The survey results showed that: from the aspect of hotel types,the overall satisfaction of independent large youth hostels was the highest,followed by International chain youth hostels and small family youth hostels ranked the last.From the aspect of survey contents,the satisfaction degree of location,staff service and safety of youth hostels in Guangzhou are relatively higher compared to the results of hotels' environmental atmosphere,facilities and cleanness.Thirdly,based on network data,questionnaire survey results and field investigation,the author found that the main problems lied in the contradiction between market demand and policy regulations and the collision between guests' needs and youth hotels' supplies.The contradiction between market demand and policy regulations was revealed in the vacuum of law where a large number of domestic small youth hostels and multi bed rooms' accommodation modes were without necessary restrictions.And the collision between guests' needs and youth hotels' supplies was revealed in low overall satisfaction degree,which mainly resulted from weak interpersonal atmosphere,lack of characteristics,limitations of workers' service level,deficiencies of hardware facilities and the small number of large-scale youth hotels etc.Lastly,through the analysis of the existing problems of youth hotels in Guangzhou and good areas' experience of construction and development,the author provided some reference optimization strategies from the perspectives of governments,industries and individuals.From the perspective of governments,regulations and policies to regulate the industry need to be established,and the access threshold ought to be reduced and a win-win cooperation goal between governments and youth hostels should be realized;from the perspective of youth hotel industries,industry associations,complete industry supervision systems,information sharing platforms and jointly organized activities are urgently called for;from the perspective of individuals,quality design and diversified development of youth hotels are also important elements.
