Research On The Risk Management Of Software Proects Based On Boehm's Model:Case Study Of Company N

Uncontrollable factor is just one side of the causes throughout the whole process from risk happening to the ultimate damage.There is a more noticeable reason that is repeating human weakness.Regarding resolving the problem,Barry W.Boehm,the famous American software engineering expert,issued his article "Software risk management:Principle and Practice" on IEEE Software in 1991.He introduced the ideological system of software risk management and divided the practical methodology into risk evaluation and risk control.Boehm's theory summarized ten common risk factors and it resolution guidance respectively.The author had worked and observed many years in Company N,and found that as a software company Company N is lacking of comprehensive risk management in its software development project.Although some of its traditional business has procedure control,the company is necessary to set up overall risk management in all core business and major procedure.The software department had set up some regulations of risk control,but the rules are just guiding principles or far from practice,therefore they are not carried our carefully and its executions are without supervision.It becomes urgent to study and establish a set of practical risk management system.This article analyzed the risks in Company N's progress management,quality management,configuration management and cost management respectively based on Boehm's software risk management theory combining the company's actual software project case.To promote the company's economic efficiency by improving company's operation mode,enhancing the core competitiveness,reducing the cost and improving product quality.These risk management measures that were implemented in software development ensured the designed project goal was achieved and the project was delivered.From company's perspective,sound risk management brought better economic returns.Involving all stakeholders into the research of software project makes the project a clear designing goal,reasonable progress arrangement and competitive team member.In the mean time,the manager of the company can better understand the overall situation of the software project and therefore better control it.This is good for company's long term growth.The system design works in this article are in line with a set of classic model that had been proved by historic data in decades.The model carried out vectorization toward risk factors which were hard to be quantized.Meanwhile,the model adopted the latest software tools such as virtual machine,cloud computing,automatic compiling,computer simulation analysis which were cutting edge technologies.The adoption of these new tools can greatly improve the efficiency and reduce cost.They were first time used in the company.This article studied the risk management of software project in Company N and adopted both subjective and objective risk evaluation methodologies.This study realized a vectorization of risk analysis and management system in software developer's view and involved all related aspects in software development.The inference was carried out based on previous methodology.
