The technology of software updates every day. It becomes more and more complex and covers almost all areas and industries. The software project has high risks during the whole life cycle. No perfect software exists at start time, all of them need many changes to get the final version. So all above factors make software have different kinds of risk:requirement risk, technical risk, development process risk and management risk etc. These sorts of risks can result in the failure of the software project, or make the project become endless. These factors make mangers must pay more attention on software management, especially on risk management during the whole project life cycle. However, most of Chinese software companies do not care about those risk factors. Many risks can be avoided if they are well managed. Generally the successful project has better management on the risk control. So risk management plays a key role in the whole software management life cycle and it should be ranked as higher priority.This paper takes a study on the software risk management for company A based on the project risk management theory. Firstly, it shows the existing problems in the project risk management, then uses brainstorming method, expert judgment method to create WBS-RBS matrix and to help identifying the risk factors that exists in the project. List four main risk factors:Requirement risk, Technical risk, Software process risk and Team management risk. And it makes qualitative analysis for those four main factors. After that, then uses analysis hierarchy process to do quantitative analysis. Base on the analysis result, it provides ways on how to control and reduce the risks for the software project and gives a reference for other companies.
