Studies On Development Of Eri Silkworm(Philosamia Cynthia Ricini)of Guangxi In China

Eri silkworm(Philosamia cynthia ricini,Boisduval)is originated in India.With the success of rearing in China,it was becoming a commercial silk-producing insect after Bombyx mori Linnaeus and Antherea pernyi Guerin-Meneville in 1955.This paper reviews the sixty years of development history of eri silkworm in Guangxi.The progress of breed selection,application technology,comprehensive utilization and genetic engineering of Chinese eri silkworm is summarized.The author analyzes the main reasons for the changes of Chinese eri silkworm,taking the India as the world's first country of eri silkworm cocoon production as the control,and studies the breeding pattern,sericulture technology,management mechanism and so on.The conclusions are that the eri silkworm industry of Guangxi is the associated industry of cassava industry.To ensure stable and long-term industrial development,the eri silkworm industry should be comprehensive utilization of the larvae/pupae and cocoons,pull the domestic market for the consumption of eri pupae and silk,take the mode of intensive production and industrial management model instead of small-scale peasant economic model.In the new situation of implementing "The Belt and Road Initiative" and "Internet +" strategy in China,the eri silkworm industry should seize this opportunity,take advantage of cassava industry "going out" and "The Belt and Road Initiative" strategy,make full use of the rich resources of cassava in the ASEAN,African countries and the successful experience of eri silkworm breeding development in Guangxi,play a unique location advantages and resources to promote the cooperation of cassava and eri silkworm in high-efficient breeding demonstration through the breed and technology output,accelerate the utilization of eri pupae resources to formation the starch + high-protein as a new composite organic food,eri pupae protein powder and other high value-added products.In order to enhance its scale and market competitiveness in the world,the eri silkworm industry of Gunagxi should associate with cassava industry to open up the international market.
