A Survey Of Current Situation And Approach To Business English Teaching In Open University

With the development of society and the adjustment of industrial structure,as well as the arrival of globalization and information era,the industry and enterprises need more and more comprehensive talents with broad and solid basic knowledge,better capability and higher quality.However,the current situation of Open University is concerned,which mainly appears in the areas of students' lower career competence,lack of teachers with business background,out-of-date teaching methods and inappropriate business English curriculum.Open University is typically a non-wall university to every adults,it is not feasible to upraise the entrance requirements,but to improve professional standard of teachers,teaching methods and practical courses is acceptable in order to change the status of “more knowledge and less practice”.A lot of scholars at home and abroad research business English.However,business English teaching in Open University is hardly covered.According to the theory of business English,summarization of business English and its teaching speciality is analyzed.Moreover,the concept of Open University,business English and business English teaching are defined in detail.Meanwhile,combined with the characteristics of Open University,a questionnaire focused on career competence talents cultivation has been designed for investigating Open University students.The questionnaire and interview are conducted in S Open University so as to investigate the students,graduates,teachers and principal of business English,to analyze the teaching purpose,teaching content,teaching method,teaching assessment and business English teacher,to demonstrate the current situation and problems of business English teaching.Thus,to solve the existing problems,first of all we should set up a wholesome business English courses.Secondly,practice modules should be designed.Thirdly,teaching methods should be improved.Fourthly,a system of business English assessments should be perfected.Finally,business English faculty should be raised.
