In the age of intensified globalization,China plays a very active role in the world economy. In recent years,President Xi Jinping put forward "The Belt and Road Initiative",Premier Li Keqiang proposed "Mass entrepreneurship and innovation".All these policies encourage more engagements of Chinese enterprises into global economic cooperation. Thus, there is a high demand of international business negotiating talents in china, since negotiation is a crucial part in the process of international trade. However, statistics show that the quality and quantity of international negotiating talents cannot satisfy the requirements of economic development of china. The phenomenon calls for reform of business English major, which is an important base for cultivating international negotiators. The Ministry of Education launched the National Criterion of Teaching Quality for BA Program in Business English in 2015,which provides effective guarantees and specifications of the reform. As a key element of business English teaching and learning, textbook is no doubt a critical support for the reform. However, there’re numerous negotiating textbooks existing in the market,to make wise choice and pick up qualified coursebook is an essential skill for BE teachers. How to select the most "suitable" textbook for BE negotiating course is the main study problem of this thesis. This study focuses on the pre-use textbooks selection and chooses four editions of textbooks which are widely used in current negotiating courses of BE major in china, which are all issued by most representative and authoritative publishing houses from home and abroad. As the mainstream methodologies of textbook evaluation,Hutchinson and Waters’model,McDonough and C.Shaw’s model as well as Tomlinson’s criteria are served as the basic standards in comparing the four textbooks.Meanwhile,in order to fit the current training requirements of international negotiators in china, and to suit the needs of BE majors, this paper also adopts National Criterion of Teaching Quality for BA Program in Business English as a guideline for evaluation. The author conducts a detailed comparative evaluation from both the macroscopic and microscopic dimensions. The macro evaluation focuses on guiding ideologies and structures of the four textbooks. The micro evaluation involves more comparison in details, mainly concerning the following four aspects:composition of each single unit, negotiating skills input, language proficiency training and readability of the book.Combining exterior and interior elements, the author makes a thorough overall evaluation of the four textbook as well.Besides,to deepen the research reliability, this paper also carries out a horizontal texts comparison on a same topic of the four books, aiming to find the most "suitable" one for Chinese BE majors and the best fit for the requirements of National Criterion. After the evaluation, this paper concludes the common demerits of the four textbooks and the limitation of the study, and it also presents the outlook of textbook development and puts forward expectations for textbook evaluation in the future.
