Non-R&D innovation is the innovation based on the existed knowledge,such as the process flow innovation,market innovation,organization innovation and business model innovation and so on,which is the main innovation pattern of small business.Non-R&D innovation is the key factor in the survival of small and medium enterprises.However,the existed researches about non-R&D innovation drivers are few and how non-R&D innovation transforms into to enterprise performance is still unclear.So,this article conducts an empirical study that performed based on a sample of312 Chinese firms,and SPSS 19.0 software is used to analyze the data which is aimed to analyze the relationships among knowledge characteristics(tacit knowledge and complexity knowledge),non-R&D innovation and enterprise performance.Besides,the moderating effects that resource flexibility makes in knowledge characteristics and non-R&D innovation and the mediating effects that organizational legitimacy makes in non-R&D innovation and enterprise performance is analyzed.The first step,the initial questionnaire is integrated based on the literature research,and the small sample pre-test is used to modify the initial questionnaire in order to obtain a better reliable questionnaire tool;the second step,a lot of questionnaires are given out to collect the data;the last step,analyze the data to get some conclusions that not found.Results are that the complexity knowledge can significantly promote the non-R&D innovation;resource flexibility affects on the relationship between tacit knowledge and non-R&D innovation is inverted U-typed manner.The resource flexibility enhances the relationship between tacit knowledge and non-R&D innovation in high level,but if resource flexibility level is too high,it will weaken the relationship mentioned above;resource flexibility affects on the relationship between complexity knowledge and non-R&D innovation is inverted U-typed manner.The resource flexibility enhances the relationship between complexity knowledge and non-R&D innovation in high level,but if resource flexibility level is too high,it willweaken the relationship mentioned above.Non-R&D innovation has direct effects on organizational legitimacy and enterprise performance.Organizational legitimacy has strongly effects on enterprise performance,and it plays a partial mediating role of the relationship between non-R&D innovation and enterprise performance.Finally,the present paper discusses managerial implication and future research.
