Research On The International Competitiveness Of Service Trade Of Shanghai

As an essential part of international trade,service trade has become more and more important.It is becoming one of major tools for industrial restructuring and pillar industry strategy in developed countries.In particular,service trade has developed rapidly in recent years,being a new impetus to world economic growth and the focus of industrial competition between countries.Therefore,many countries have taken countermeasures to promote the development of service trade,aming to enhance the international competitiveness of service trade.So they possibly can gain a stronger position in the future of international competition.The study of the international competitiveness of service trade bases on the work of Western scholars,the research mainly focuses on the theory source of international competitiveness of service trade,the influencial factors and its index system.Because domestic scholars’ study on the international competitiveness of service trade is later than western scholars,they mostly make full use of the foreign research results.The domestic research concentrate on the empirical study,mainly relative to the evaluation of service trade in China.As far as policy practice,the study of international competitiveness of service trade has being the core of policy innovation and academic attention.Shanghai is one of the most economically developed cities in China and its service trade is powerful than other cities in China,which manifests in not only the trade scale,but also the trade growth and its future potentials.The level of international competitiveness of service trade of Shanghai will be directly related to its goal of global city and distribution to transformation of foreign trade and economic development in China.In the profound context of pattern changes all over the world and domestically economic transformation and upgrading,China steps up the construction of Shanghai Free Trade Zone(FTZ),expanding the opening up of service industries and promoting the rapid development of service trade.Against the above background,this paper circles around the international competitiveness of service trade of Shanghai in the context of the establishment of Shanghai Free Trade Zone.It consists of four parts.Part 1,includeing chapter 1,2 and 3,which is based on the definitions of basic concepts and reviews of the origin of international competitiveness of service trade under the theories of orthodox trade,new trade and competitive advantage.Part 2 involves chapter 4,analyzing the development trend of international service trade,the current development of service trade of Shanghai,and exploring the opportunities and challenges of the development of Shanghai’s international service trade combined with the strategy of Shanghai Free Trade Zone.Part 3 covers chapter 5,in accordance with the analysis framework of diamond model,mainly analyzing the influencial factors of international competitiveness of service trade of Shanghai,and building a metrology model to make an empirical test on the various factors,which influence the international competitiveness of service trade of Shanghai.Part 4 includes chapter 6,evaluating the international competitiveness of service trade of Shanghai,which involves the comprehensive evaluation,based on the comparision with Hong Kong,Singapore,Beijing,Tianjin,Chongqing,Guangzhou,and Shenzhen.Then,it makes the major departments evaluation compared with Hong Kong,Singapore,and Beijing.The empirical research shows that Shanghai has a certain comparative advantage in terms of primary factors of production,demand conditions,trade in goods,the development of services and government’s policy support.Nevertheless,Shanghai’s advanced factors are lagging behind developed countries(regions).The market openness of service trade of Shanghai is very limited,failing to form a dynamic competition system of service market,hindering the enhancement of international competitiveness of service trade.The comprehensive evaluation of international competitiveness of service trade of Shanghai instruatres that Shanghai ranks fifth in the list of eight cities.So there is a big gap between Shanghai and the international trade center cities such as Singapore and Hong Kong.Some aspects still have lassed behind the domestic cities such as Beijing and Shenzhen.In addition,Shanghai has significant comparative advantages of transport service and telecommunications,computer&information service.Additionally,the international competitiveness of other major service trade sector is inadequate.As the highlight of future industrial competition around the world,the theoretical research and policy practice of service trade still have been needed to be vigorously strengthen.This paper primary researches the international competitiveness of service trade of Shanghai under the background of Shanghai Free Trade Zone.On the one hand,this paper enriches the theoretical research on the international competitiveness of service trade and the evaluation index system of international competitiveness of urban service trade.On the other hand,it is of great distribution to the policy innovation in order to speed up the development of the international competitiveness of service trade and improve its development environment in China.
