Silicon steel is one of the few products in Shougang Qiangang company which still have profit space and bears the important tasks of controling the loss of Shougang group.Due to the bad overall steel market situation,the upstream raw material prices and the downstream market demand,customers are even more strict with the quality of products,and hope the product was cheap and fine.As a result,the quality control and cost management to the enterprise puts forward higher requirements.In Shougang Qiangang company,the low yield is one of the main causes of high cost,only 62.53%,which is more than 20%lower than the advanced steel making company.Therefore,raising the yield becomes the first choice for Shougang Qiangang company to reduce the product cost.In this paper,the Six Sigma management theory was used to study the problem of low yield,formulate and carry out the program of increasing the yield of grain-oriented silicon steel.Finally,the goal of increasing the yield and reducing manufacturing costs was reached.The main contents of the paper are as follows:(1)The current situation of Shougang Qiangang company and the grain-oriented silicon steel production processes and characteristics were described.The basic idea and development process of six sigma management and its methodology and implementation steps were introduced.(2)On the basis of critical customer demand of grain-oriented silicon steel yield and production processes analysis,the client's key quality requirements and project scope were determined,the yield enhance target was formulated and was decomposed to the yield of each process.Furthermore,the research team was set up and the communication plan was cleared.(3)The yield data of grain-oriented silicon steel was collected.The stability of the production process and the sigma level of grain-oriented silicon steel yield were analyzed.Moreover,the yield of grain-oriented silicon steel was improved by rapid improvements.(4)The loss causes of the grain-oriented silicon steel yield were analyzed.The process flow of each step was also analyzed and the loss amount of each process was estimated.The value-added and non-value-added property of processes was analyzed,and the key causes of non-value-added processes were found out.As a result,ten factors which made the biggest effect on yield were teased out.(5)According to the key influence factors,ten research sub-projects were set up and two of them were screened out to be carried out preferentially.The implement schedule and control methods were formulated and the risk of the projects were researched.Moreover,the improving effectiveness on the grain-oriented silicon steel yield was checked,the contribution of improving measures was analyzed and the created economic benefits were calculated.
