Six Sigma Project Practice And Application In Lubao Steel Pipe Company

Yantai Lubao Steel Pipe Co., Ltd (hereinafter referred as to Lubao) is a specialist company engaging in design, production, inspection, marketing and service of seamless steel pipe, which founded in May,1992. And now, it belongs to Baoshan Iron & Steel Co., Each year, Lubao could manufacture over 30,000 tons all kinds seamless steel pipes, which are widely applied in many fields,such as petroleum mining and transporting, power plant boilers, pressure vessel, hydraulic pillar, machine making, engineering and constructing, etc.For twenty years, as one kind method of reducing defects, Six Sigma has been enriching and developing during practice. Now, it's not only a method for quality improving, but also a set of management concept, systemic methodology and innovation philosophy. The application of Six Sigma management technology has spread from manufacturing to all kinds enterprises.specially, with our economy rapidly development, more and more domestic enterpises gradually realize its value and actively push and apply it.Recently, as one important unit of seamless steel pipe manufacturing in Baosteel, Lubao introduced the Six sigma management in virtue of Baosteel's resource in 2005, and considered it as one important means, which has been continuously improving management and product quality.The article aims at introducing six sigma management theory and project status in Lubao. There are four chapters in total. In Chapter 1, I introduce Lubao and its quality management status; Chapter 2, I introduce Six Sigma theory and method. Chapter 3 I present a Six Sigma project-reducing the rate of degraded ASTM A53/A106 steel pipe, and say how to carry out Six Sigma project; In Chapter 4,I give out my comments on Six Sigma management theory and its application.
