On August 24th 2014, the 31st Olympics Games in Rio came to an end. Along with the triumphant return of the Chinese Olympics team, the competition among the major press on reporting was gradually dampened. The People's Republic of China has participated in Summer Olympics Games for nine times since the Olympics in Los Angeles in 1984. In the past 32 years, each Olympics Games manifested the evolution and advancement of the model of sports news reporting. During the recent years, especially with the emergence of Internet, the media ecology has changed enormously: while the print media was passively replaced by internet media during the London Olympics, there has been a thorough self-subversion of the traditional media at the time of Rio 2016. Differing from the old model of the Olympics reporting which prioritized the tradition media, and the new media came second as assistance. During the Rio 2016 Olympics, the traditional mainstream media played an active role in media convergence, which brought great innovation to the old methods of news reporting. With various types of media platforms, the traditional mainstream media satisfied the public need of sports news with abundant news release based on brand new ideas of communication. Meanwhile, this propensity helps to convey the culture and spirit of sports, and manifests the new glamorous image of China to the world.The development of Wechat must influence and change the sports news tremendously as a significant communication power nowadays. This dissertation basing on literature-based research methodology and content analysis method selects the competition reporting conducted by the Wechat public account of People's Daily as the example of study. Through the analysis of the specific contents reported by that public account, this dissertation tries to examine the characteristics of sports news conducted by Wechat public platform under the idea of melted media, and predict the future trend of sports news reporting.This dissertation firstly begins with the history of the People's Daily newspaper,which leads to the fact that the Olympic reports have entered the era of financial media.The "People's Daily" based on the media environment, the object and the user's preferences constituting the background of the impact of the times, its WeChat public platform also presents a unique feature: and compares them with other platforms as traditional media, Weibo, and applications. According to the analysis, in order to take a place in sports reporting, the Wechat public accounts, which own strong attraction to users, have to take advantage of its strong sociability, improve the mechanism of interaction,and enhance emotional connections with the users. Secondly,according to the collection of statistics from the reports about Rio Olympics on People's Daily, the dissertation gives detailed elaboration and analysis on four aspects of sports reports——theme of reports, information resources, forms, and grammar and rhetoric of news' titles,tries to state the lessons obtained in the process of news reports. Finally,based on the the last chapter, the dissertation gives development strategy to the sports reports on Wechat public accounts, including recreating sports communication model,enriching interacted marketing,and completing media matrix.The purpose of this dissertation is to search for new methods of constant development and perfection of sports news reporting on Wechat public platforms.
