The Cover Story Of Taiwan's "Human" Magazine

The topics of this thesis are the cover of magazines and cover stories of the magazine of The Man’s World which was issued in Taiwan. The Man ’s World started publication in November, 1985, and it stopped publication in September, 1989. This magazine only released 47 issues within nearly four years.At that time, Taiwan had been under authoritarian rule for a long time. The magazine which had critical and realistic features had profound significance. Under authoritarian politics, the media had the functions of propagandizing the will of the authorities and taming people. The existence of The Man ’s World was an impact to the party state system of Taiwan, and it was also quite different from the other publicity instruments.Although it only releases 47 issues,it has a profound impact on Taiwan’s cultural magazines and documentary photography.In this thesis, the method of content analysis, text analysis and theoretical analysis is mainly put into use, and document literature is also used as supplement on this research. The project can be divided into four main parts: cover stories of The Man’s World, pictorial analysis of cover stories in The Man’s World, images and words narration of cover stories in The Man’s World,subject expression of cover stories in The Man’s World. In order to have a deep understanding on The Man ’s World and draw a meaningful conclusion, historical background and theoretical knowledge should be taken into consideration.
