University museum is"for the purpose of education, research, appreciation, collection of cultural relics, specimens by use of institutions of higher learning, cultural property information to set up and open to the public, dedicated to the development of higher education and social and cultural development of the social public welfare organizations."The museum Originated in the university.The first museum of Chinese universities is Nantong museum was founded by Zhangjian in 1905.Nanjing is a historical and cultural city,care about culture and education. According to the ministry of education in 2015 released by the national list of universities, there are 53 universities in Nanjing.Incomplete statistics according to the author there are 38 museums in 17 universities.Due to there are lots of university museums in Nanjing.These university museums have Rich resources and complete types of collection.These university museums play an important role in teaching and scientific research in universities as well as to the public to carry out the science popularization education in the process.The paper use the 38 university museums in Nanjing area as the study sample,through the university museum of questionnaire, visit, investigation, analysis and research,reviewed the development of the university museum in Nanjing area.And Introduce types functions and characteristics of these university museums.On the basis of the background discussed the shortage of these university museums in the process of developing. And puts forward some suggestions according to these shortcomings.The author hope this paper will have an effect to the future development of university museums in Nanjing area.
